Default Bambi: The Reckoning

Quote:
2022 is the year our childhood’s died. And no, it’s not because of the climate crisis. First, Dread Central exclusively reported on the upcoming Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey, a slasher take on the little bear in a red shirt. Now, we can exclusively report that ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions are back with another sledgehammer to those childhood memories. This time, they’re tackling Bambi, the sweet deer with a traumatic past and a forest full of fluffy friends. The film’s title? Bambi: The Reckoning.

Production begins in late January 2022 for the currently untitled project. We don’t have any plot details, but there’s an obvious revenge angle after the tragic death of his mother. Scott Jeffrey is slated to direct the film. He’ll work alongside producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who directed the already-infamous Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey.

Jeffrey said, “The film will be an incredibly dark retelling of the 1928 story we all know and love. Finding inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wilderness. Prepare for Bambi on rabies!”

The creature design in The Ritual is massive and one of the most memorable from the last decade. So that comparison conjures up images of a giant deer with extra limbs, covered in blood. This isn’t your grandma’s Bambi, that’s for sure.

A baby deer with rabies. That sounds like a plotline for a horror comedy movie.

I haven't seen The Ritual. If this is the same team that made that film, I imagine this will be a similar style but with rabid Bambi.

From personal experience, whenever I come across a movie on streaming and it opens wtih an ITN logo (99% of the time on Tubi which is own by Fox, which is in turn owned by Disney - so that Winnie the Pooh movie and this Bambi will eventually populate a service owned by Disney/Fox), I immediately exit out.

It normally is a sign of dogshit, well deershit in this case.

Okay, this is their prior film, so I guess this style would be what to expect for this new Bambi Rabies film.
Looks like a slasher film overall, where the bad guy eliminates the group one by one. I guess Bambi will do that to the hunters involved.

Tubi is actually owned by Fox, not Disney.

Ah, I see Fox Corp owns Tubi.

Disney owns pretty much the rest of Fox though.

For years I've honestly wanted a horror movie where deer kill hunters. I always imagined them like zombie deer or something like that. So a horror movie Bambi sounds pretty cool to me. Hopefully it's decent.

Think it looks awful? Offended and upset by the mere idea of it? Don't watch it. The original will always be around.

Jeez, it's like bad sequels/reboots/remakes are a new thing...

This ls long long overdue. People killed his mother, so it's about time for some payback.

This is an indie exploitation film, though.
We sorely miss these kinds of movies after their "golden age" during the '70s and '80s.
I've grown tired of these edgy reboots but this just cranks the edginess up to eleven that it becomes funny instead of offensive.

We need a new era in Hollywood where Bambi is the new Bronson

It's not. The Ritual is a well made, quality horror movie. This will probably be a no-budget exploitation flick. They're just nicking (sorry, 'finding inspiration from') the creature design from The Ritual. Easier than coming up with your own I guess.

I'd watch that. Might make the character interesting for the first time ever.

As for this Bambi thing, I know the Winnie the Pooh horror got made because the rights to certain versions of the character entered the public domain, but you'd think Disney would have kept a solid stranglehold on the rights to one of their most beloved characters...

Plus, SNL already did it:

"I'm sorry, Bambi. I'm just remembering, like, that bit when you got lost in the snow, and the rabbit found you, it was so beautiful..."

"Yeah, I liked the bit where you shoved the drill in the virgin otter's face".

"That wasn't in "Bambi", Vyvyan!"

"It was in the sequel, Neil. 'Bambi Goes Crazy Ape Bonkers with His Drill and Set'".

"Is that true, Bambi? Did you do a Disney nasty?"

"So what if I did? I'm not apologizing. My life collapsed after "Bambi". I was a lovable faun alright, unusable for anything else. I took the Babycham stuff, sure, thanks to Mike here, but I was finished. When the porn "Bambi" came along, well, I thought, this is where I get something back...If it hadn't been for the chance to present University Challenge and start a new life, I'd be giving executive relief to woodland creatures to this very day".
