Favourite "ironic" use of music in a movie
By this I mean when a movie uses a nice, pleasant song during an intense action sequence or scene of horror. For example "Somewhere over the rainbow" being used during a shootout in Face/Off. I think this is one of the earliest examples i can recall seeing, but i'm sure there are plenty before this and certainly plenty after. What are some of your favourites? |

Title sequence to funny games with John Zorn’s Naked City track over the top of the wholesome family car ride. Always makes me smile

"Stuck in the Middle With You" by Stealer's Wheel, in Reservoir Dogs. To me, it's the best thing about the movie. Every time I've heard it since seeing the movie, I've thought about that scene.

Komm Susser Tod in The End of Evangelion, because it only sounds ironic at first.
It sounds like a happy pop song at first even when it's playing over the apocalypse, but when you listen to the lyrics, you get bleak lyrics about suicide and failure. |

Liberace playing Moonlight Sonata during the hobbling scene in Misery. It's not just the music, it's the fact that the king of kitsch is playing it that makes the scene even more unsettling.
