Oh - increase the budget via marketing expense? If you haven't noticed, that line item is down.

45 days is plenty of time. If the movie is doing well at the BO they will keep it in theaters. If it bombs - right onto the streaming service. It's a fluid, dynamic situation against the performance of each movie. It isn't "cast in concrete" as many make it out to be.

Damn, it's rare I enjoy a movie so much and especially a sequel that took place so long after the original. This is a 10/10 movie for me, I loved every moment of it, and it was, is, and will always be an incredible movie from this point on.

Is there something I miss from it? It's missing Michael Ironside and the song "Take My Breath Away" which were on the original film.

That being said, the score of Maverick is stellar.

I love the score, but it looks like the soundtrack might have quite a bit missing, and then the climactic dogfight music is only available as a bonus track on the Japanese release.

I read a rumor awhile back that co-composer Lorne Balfe said an expanded soundtrack was in the works, so hopefully that's true.

Wow, we're back @ the box office numbers!
They're still milking Maverick big time. I bet Cruise is gong to have a very nice Christmas this year. And that's without the revenues from the DVD, the Blu-ray, the 4K Blu and the streaming worldwide.

Can Maverick make it to #15? It needs roughly $1.5 million in two weeks; no way Jose.
It'll be interesting to watch just before the next big wave; 'Avatar: The Way of Water'

Before next weekend Maverick should climb one more rank to secure number 15 spot surpassing 'The Avengers' on the all time list of domestic adjusted for inflation.

And when Maverick ends on December 15, the next day Avatar 2 starts the next game @ the box office. Can the Na'vi people beat Maverick and his crew? That would be entertaining to find out, in 3D and 2D, mask or no mask.

Is there a "tickets sold" list to balance? I'm not sure there's a way to adjust for inflation acceptably, like the official unemployment numbers (in the US), it's more of an art than a science.

Top Gun Maverick did big numbers, that I can't deny, but to really rival or to have even done more than the pop culture phenomenon that was Avengers 2012? I have my doubts about that.

saw this at my local AMC as I wasn't going to back to theaters yet when the film was in all the theaters. By the time I went back, it was gone. I am glad that I went to see it as I found the film really fun. It was nice seeing a film that looked like a film (I know it was shot digitally. I am talking about how it was made.) There is a classic style to the filmmaking which gives it a different feel than the crap that is released today.

I tell you this about my viewing: I swear it was being shown in standard definition, like they just put on a DVD instead of a DI. Everything looked flat and awful with a ton of edge enhancement and wonky detail. It was weird watching the film like this on a big screen. Had I known it was going to look that bad, I would have gone to a different theater or not have gone at all.

Still, I really like the film and will buy it on 4K blu-ray as soon as it hits a price I would like to pay.

The NBR isn't a critics organization, though. It's formed by "film enthusiasts", based in and around New York City.

There was a time when if you were a big box office success you never got recognized. So, if Top Gun Maverick wins an award or two you can't complain too much. Just be thankful it isn't getting overlooked for Wakanda. Because that would be the norm for critics these days.
