Default How can you protect yourself selling a valuable item on eBay?

I have a Bull Durham jersey autographed by Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon. I want to list it for sale on eBay but am honestly scared to list something valuable. eBay consistently screws over sellers and there are many buyers out there who will take advantage of that. Is there anything I can do to protect myself? I guess the obvious answer would be not to sell on eBay lol.

There isn't really a way to protect yourself. If you're selling a potentially high-ticket item then sell it through an auction house or at a memorabilia store.

You could send the item (after filming yourself packing it) and get it returned as a "not as described", where you'd pay the return postage, film yourself opening the box to find (at best) an unsigned Bull Durham jersey and eBay would say that they don't have any proof that you sent the buyer the correct item.

I've seen people receive kitchen waste returned, rocks returned, it could be a nightmare. You may get lucky and spot the buyer posting Instagram pictures of the item after the fact, but then you'd be hard pressed to get a police department to have the resources to look into the matter.

Sadly I don't believe there are any Auction houses or memorabilia stores anywhere around here. Any better places online to sell something like this?
