I just picked up an N64 off Ebay with an expansion pack, official black controller and 4 racing games (Rally Challenge 2000, Top Gear Overdrive, Ridge Racer 64, and Aero Gauge) for less than a hundred dollars. Other than Top Gear Overdrive the expansion pack makes the games run slow and sluggish, had to replace it with my old Jumper Pack. I can't see much difference on a tiny 19' CRT screen anyway.

I wanted to get Majora's Mask but I hear it requires the expansion pack, how is the framerate with it?

I don't recall framerate being an issue back when I rented Majora's mask. But then again framerate issues we're usually ignored back then as long as the games were solid. Best example of that being true is Perfect Dark. The EGM review had a chop o meter on the review page yet we didn't care. It was/is still awesome.

Congrats on the n64. I also recently purchased one with expansion pak and official controller on eBay for $70 Canadian shipped. As for games, I already had a few but also recently bought Doom 64. There's a game I shouldn't have ignored as a kid. It's an original Doom game, not a port and the decision to use sprites for enemies (which as a kid probably turned me off to it as it was a 3d console. Also didn't care for classic Doom the way I do now) was brilliant as it can have tons of enemies on screen yet not slow down. Killer Instinct Gold, another game I neglected as a kid should arrive next week.

Another great part about the n64 is that the region lock is just a piece of plastic that can be removed. Ordered Sim City 2000 and the original Animal Crossing (Dobutsu no mori or Animal Forest) from Japan.

I'm ashamed that no one mentioned NBA hangtime. What great mulitplayer memories my friends and I had with that game.

Regarding Majora's Mask, the only new and improved things I remember noticing about it compared to Ocarina was that 1) when you switched between screens in the menu it was a lot faster and 2) Link did weird flips when jumping over blocks. Other than that, I can't think of any obvious places where the memory expansion came into play. It's possible some enemies used it (I'm thinking of the puffball things that jump out from the shadows in the dark and the snow) and maybe the final dungeon with all the sun puzzles.

The only game I ever noticed an intense framerate lag on (enough to bother me) was A Link to the Past on the SNES. But that could be because I have a SNES Jr. that's seen a lot of miles over the years and probably has a few rusty wires or something.

I'm going to hopefully get some help

I hooked up my N64 that I received so many years ago as a kid. It's been awhile since it was last played. I have an RFU adapter that goes from the N64 and it plugs into the TV, basically like a cable would. I have the actual TV cable going into the RFU adapter.

1.. the quality of the TV cable has decreased.
2.. the quality of the game pictures seems not great.

The TV is a modern day smart one with a few hdmi ports (being used). Is there a better product than the RFU adapter I could be using?

Well, the best option is to mod your N64 for HDMI output, but that's pretty expensive. A better option than RF would be to get some composite cables (the yellow, red and white kind), which still won't look great, but will be at least a slight improvement. You could also mod your N64 to output RGB, which is the highest-quality analog signal possible, and use an upscaler like the Framemeister or OSSC. Unfortunately, there's a lot of stuff that the N64 does with video output that means it'll never look as crisp as a PS1 or even a SNES could look, but you can at least mitigate some of it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the N64 also supports S-Video, but your TV might not support it. It's better than composite, but support for it kinda dropped off a few years ago.

This video will probably answer all your questions:

Had my wife bring her n64 home from her parents house this weekend. She had Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, and something else. I just ordered 1080 snowboarding for it. Going to hook it up tonight!

I've been playing my N64 a lot lately. I first bought it 6 or 7 years ago but I just finally picked up an expansion pack for it. So now I'm playing Perfect Dark.

Also just recently picked up three Star Wars games: Shadows of the Empire, Rogue Squadron and Episode I Racer (easily the best thing to come out of Episode I).

I never got rid of my N64, though I only had a handful of games for it. The two Zeldas, Hey You Pikachu (glitchy as all hell but actually somewhat entertaining), Smash bros, and Mario Party 2. The first Mario Party was a dud, but the second was actually pretty entertaining.

Of course, I have several other games but not on the actual system. Mario 64, Pokemon Snap, and the Kirbys are all on the Wii.

I found an official N64 controller at a flea market for 3 bucks the other day. It's to the point I pick them up if I see them cheap, even if the colors don't match. I've noticed the cheap knockoffs have taken over eBay so I like to refurbish them in my spare time. The last few I've gotten, I've taken them apart and washed them in mild soap and water and replaced the loose joysticks. Good as new.

I love the N64. I did sell it and all the games for it (which I later regretted) so bought it again years later. Mainly for SM64, Goldeneye (which I'm playing right now) and the two Castlevania games.

I only got an expansion pack last year, for Perfect Dark and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. I remember wanting to buy Perfect Dark on launch day at GAME and then realising I needed to also buy an expansion pack to play the whole game, which was expensive. I didn't bother.

I have just a few more levels on 007 to do for Goldeneye, if my patience will hold.

Pretty sure my brother pawned my 64 and games behind my back when I was a kid. It just "disappeared" one day and that was that.

Wrestlemania 2000 is one of the best wrestling games, on any system. WCW/nWo Revenge is the same. WCW/nWo Revenge is the best wrestling video game, in my opinion.

It doesn't even matter if the roster is outdated and its the year 2018, the gameplay is great. I wish I could play these 2 games again. At least I can watch gameplay on YouTube, it brings back memories.

Tag-Team Wrestling on the Commodore 64 computer is the best wrestling game ever. I played it every single day up until the day my C64 disk drive broke. Then my brother, being the ass that he is, threw the entire computer in the trash rather than let me try and fix the disk drive. I hate him so much, we haven’t spoken in years. Wow my reply took a dark turn...

Can anyone suggest an RCA to HDMI option for Nintendo 64? Preferably one that doesn't stretch the image to 16:9.

They have video game nights at the library here once a month and my son played Pokemon Stadium for the first time the other day and really liked it. I unfortunately don't have the option on my TV to hook up the N64.
