Default Samsung 55" DLP turning off

My parents' Samsung 55" DLP is turning off after a period of time. It is probably close to 5 years old. About 4 months ago the lamp gave out and I replaced it and everything worked fine.
Then this week, they tell me that after some time it will turn off by itself. But then they can turn it back on and it will work again. Sometimes for long periods of time and sometimes it will shut off very shortly again.
Is it possibly a dud lamp that I unfortunately installed in there or does this sound like something else?

Is the switch on the lamp door secured?

This sounds like a capacitor in the power supply on its way out.
