Default Light summer for Blu-ray??

Is it me, or does the release schedule for Blu-ray (and probably HD DVD) look awfully light over the summer?? I'm thinking 300 is eagerly anticipated; and maybe the Fifth Element Remaster, but aside from these and Weeds Season 2, DAMN! I know, I know, Blu-ray's gotta win this thing before release titles really pick up steam. But Sony BMG's gotta truck load of good stuff they should be putting out, no?...

You are right besides the release of a few titles i.e. Remember The Titans, Vacancy, etc. (most of which don't come out until August or Sept) there really isn't too much on the horizon.

I think a lot of people are hoping its only because they are holding out for the fall/pre-holiday season.

i think you're right -- here's hoping the pipeline fills up a little for the fall, or maybe some announcements hit the wires over the next few weeks...

At least we know companies aren't abandoning Blu-ray, whereas such a drought on HD-DUD would probably mean just that

If you ask me both camps are gearing up for a holiday season blitz. Crimbo 2007 is mighty important and who ever comes out on top then, could well be the victor.
Universal etc have been hinting for a while that they expect big things from HD-DVD in q4, no doubt the BDA have taken note and are well aware they will need to counter any assualt. besides this time of year can be quiet traditionaly.

Yes, I'm really surprised by this. I figured the summer would have been a big opportunity for Sony. I was looking for catch-up on some good BD titles over my holidays, but there's not a whole lot on the schedule to look forward to. Looks like we have to wait for the fall. It would be nice to see Spider Man 1 & 2 on Blu-ray before the fall, but I guess that won't happen.

There doesn't appear to be much competition for 300. I'm guessing this one is just going to fly off the shelves. On the flip side, there are some good games coming out on PS3 over the summer...

yeah, that's what I was wondering, thanks. Guess it is a bit seasonal. And yes, I'd further have to agree. HD DVD will be like a cat in a corner in Q4, this is their last chance. I'm sure they're going to have a bargain bonanza, but it's a last ditch effort, really.

Maybe it's a good idea for Blu-ray to "unleash hell" as it were, come October thru December with their exclusive titles and some cool exclusive gift sets. Once again, PS3 sales, which you can bet will be an even stronger seller through this year's holiday season will take another monstorous bite out of HD DVD's prospects.

Perhaps some combo offers with Spiderman BD box sets coupled with the new, less expensive Sony BD player will be flying around??...

I'm guessing that is why all the studios cancelled so many releases they hopefully did it because they were wanting to put it off until the holiday season.

I am not really that worried. i am assuming that awesome releases will be released from october to the holiday season. which i assume that HDDVD will lose the format war around the time. since most of the blockbusters will be released during this summer, this is when the showdown will start once all summer movies are out for the public. i don't mind seeing toshiba and microsoft lose more money and time. anyways, BDs are still wining with not so many great movies are released.

Summer is generally a light time for releases. The difference here would be people will be comparing things to Universal which chose this time specifically because it would likely standout.

June 26 is especially significant: 11 Universal titles, 3 Rhino, 1 Bandai Visual, + 2 Paramounts! That's 17 titles on that one day (versus just the two Paramounts for BD).

Seems they are determined to have win a week in the Nielsen's. So, I predict right now there will be massive press ready to go about HD DVD winning a week after six months being behind, and most will make it out as indication of a big HD DVD come back. Few will analyze the reality of the situation.

You're right. This is unacceptable! It looks that they are not in a hurry to win the format war. I have posted this several times: We need many more classic titles!!!

They want you to get frustrated...and thus buying all those titles you thought you'd pass on.
