As for the 20-minute interview, he starts talking in Cantonese, then changes into Mandarin for a couple of minutes, then reverting to Cantonese hehe :P Although I don't understand the question texts that pop up during the interview in Japanese, his replies are quite interesting. Let me see if I can recall some of it: - When looking back at his younger self, he despises his younger version. After the success of DM and SITES, he got too much money and attention that he turned arrogant and was a big spender. - He has been thinking of making Drunken Master 3, but till this day he still hasn't been able to come up with a good storyline. And no other directors have any new ideas either. But if someone has a good idea for a plotline of DM3, they are welcome to tell/share..(I guess to him :P). And if DM3 gets made one day, he probably would suit the Master role more. - During the shooting of DM and SITES, he rarely got off work. When everybody went home after shooting, he and Yuen Woo Ping would sit on a café and discuss ideas of how to shoot different scenes. After Yuen went to sleep, JC would go back to his hotel room and practice his kung fu styles (for SITES and DM) in front of the mirror. - He got so many gift from people (fans?) during this period, that he didn't have place to store them. He had to tuck them away somewhere, and he didn't realize some of it was snack and food. So when he unpacked them later (few years or similar?), the bad smells struck his face hehe. - When he went to Japan, people asked what he liked. Confused of what to answer, he said he liked wasabi.. This lead to tons of gifts to him..of wasabi. Next time he travelled there, someone asked if he wanted/liked wasabi..he said "NO"..no wasabi. Instead he said he liked cars..then he got a lots of cars as gift..that is..toy cars :P - Time flies fast he says. When he filmed Karate Kid with Jayden, he realized he had stepped into the shoes of Yuen Siu Tien that played his master in DM. Kind of interesting thought he said. - When asked about what he thinks of a remake of DM, he said he supports the idea. With the technology and special effects nowadays, and past experiences (from him for example), a remake could be quite good. |

Well, it arrived. Glad the set turned out so well. I really liked the booklet and artwork that was included. The booklets have some nice pictures from the films.
I compared the blu rays with my Columbia dvd`s. Pretty much agree with everyone else here who has the box set regarding pq and audio. PQ is cleaner and clearer. A lot of the scratches and junk, etc are gone. It is certainly a step up in quality. Though, the Japanese prints do show a little more detail but are not as clean as the main films. SITES only featured the Cantonese audio track with Japanese subs. No Japanese audio track. DM did have the complete Cantonese audio track (no hybrid) and an Japanese audio track. So, the question might be asked how or when did Destination Films get the complete Cantonese track? The credits text of DM: is slightly different on the blu from the dvd. Perhaps the font thickness is different or slightly different style of lettering. The Columbia dvd has white letters "Drunken Master" as slightly see-through and are out-lined in black. The blu ray is solid white and not outlined in black. Both movies featured a little more screen image than what showed on the dvd; on the sides and top & bottom. The Japanese cut of DM is interesting with the alt opening. The other extras are interesting. That`s about it, I think. Not much else to add. |

Sometimes it appears that the Japanese cut looks the best, that perhaps it looks better than the remaster. But, the actual image in my player looks so much better. And, in motion, the main feature film remaster looks the best hands down.
And, the green tint is not as noticeable in motion. Just so it`s noted, I play my dvd in vlc and am using dvdfab media player to play the blu ray. Last edited by reason108; 06-08-2014 at 10:46 AM. |

thanks for the screenshots.
they kind of fubar'd the colors in SITES. i like the colors of the unaltered japanese cut much more and it looks much sharper. the title screen of the main version of the bluray has a lot of compression artifcats and looks softer or is this because of too strong jpeg compression? i think i will wait for an english release by sony |

It was interesting that there was that green tint to the image. Rather odd that they did not check it. Destination Films own the print that appeared on the Columbia dvd and the remastered image. Yet, the dvd looks closer to the Japanese print in color. It would be nice if it were to be released in the States with English subs and perhaps a color-corrected image.
