Default Cinéart releases Wong Kar-Wai films (In the Mood for Love...)

Cinéart released "In the Mood for Love" (花樣年華, 2000), directed by Wong Kar-Wai, on Blu-ray and DVD in August 2021.

Cinéart also released two other movies from the same director, Fallen Angels (墮落天使, 1995) and Happy Together (春光乍洩, 1997), on home video recently, but only on DVD, as is usual for Cinéart. This movie is one of the very rare exceptions for Cinéart. It's also worth pointing out that the Blu-ray version is labelled as a "Special Edition" on the cover, while the DVD is not.

The BD release is sold on,, and, but not on,, and [EDIT 23 October 2021: Bol sells it now]

When searching for the publisher's releases on, filtering by "Best Verkocht" (Best-selling), it's at number 1. Not at all on though. I hope Cinéart will do more Blu-rays.

It uses a new 4K remaster. There's a 2019 copyright in the ending credits (see screenshots link). BD50, but it's full of extras.

The back lists:
  • Making of (51 min)
  • Deleted scenes with audio commentary
  • Alternative ending (33 min)
  • Music video
Some screenshots (made with mpv):

No comparison between NL BD and old and new Criterion BD, because I don't have timecodes for the Criterion BD screenshots available to me, I haven't watched the film yet.

Dutch subtitles only, not even French, despite Cinéart, whose Belgian/Dutch DVD of the anime film Mirai had NL/FR subtitles (I forgot if it has French audio too or not), and that same anime film had a French DVD/BD by Anime Ltd./All the Anime, without NL subs.

Opening and ending subtitles are nearly scene timed. A lot, but not all, of the credits are subtitled.

The old Criterion Blu-ray uses a different master, and the new Criterion Blu-ray is only included in an expensive boxset with terrible packaging that destroys the discs. When calculating the price per movie in that boxset, it's still more expensive than this Dutch Blu-ray release.

For what it's worth, this film will get a 4K Blu-ray release in Germany on 25 November 2021, but it will only have German subtitles. 3 discs included: 4K Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray, DVD. Cardboard box? And a booklet.

A French 4K Blu-ray release is planned for 1 December 2021, but not yet added to the database.

Do you know if this release will have English subtitles?
And is there any 4K info on 2046?
