Idris Elba took that advice and it didn't turn out so well.

Hrmm. I was planning on get this cuz... well, it's 88 Films and a HK film. HOWEVER... didn't know that we got a 4K of this here in the States. Somehow, that escaped my radar.

Decent release. The artwork is KILLER! However...

The Vinegar Syndrome version has a different set of extras the 88Films version does not have. And vice versa. The 88Films version has a glitch that upset me. When the film's end credits roll, there's the logo of Vinegar Syndrome at the very end of the movie. UGH!!!

The subtitles are better and again, that artwork is MUCH TOO FANTASTIC!!!!!!!
There's a movie poster and reversible artwork, not to mention, a booklet. No movie cards, though. Vinegar Syndrome's version did have extra interviews with Herman Yau, though.

We licenced Vinegar Syndrome's master from them, hence their logo at the end, as the master we were supplied originally was the cut version.

the audio was out of synch on the vinegar in a restored uncut scene, is it corrected on 88? the jump on the neck with the chair, the audio of the neck crushing comes way too late due to sloppy re-editing.

This is why I double dip on titles so often. I've already got the VS release and really enjoyed it. The 88 version was shipped to me from Amazon last week.

I feel that this looks like a smut film and the depiction epidemic is unrealistic and it has no substance.

It's sick, depraved and something I'd not quite seen before.

And I loved it

I do have the VS release. I'm still wondering whether to double dip or not.

The VS Ebola Syndrome is one of my favourite blind buys in recent memory. Anthony Wong's performance is revelatory and reminds me of Divine in all the best ways. Bad taste at its worst-best and a nice pandemic movie.

Too bad the 88 release is a year late and not 4K, though I love 88 and they plainly have the better cover art.

I never picked up the US Untold Story release – are 88 still planning to do that one?

This is an amazingly outrageous film with a barnstorming central performance and I can't recommend it highly enough.

That's the reason why I passed on it during the current sale. I actually just ordered the Vinegar Syndrome 4K on Monday.

Seem odd that films like Driver got a 4K release and this did not.

It's still a nice companion piece to the VS release.

Untold Story is a bit too readily available now (US release etc), but I’d welcome some of the other big hitters of the genre like Run and Kill, Sex and Zen (uncut), or Red to Kill. I would’ve thought none of these would get BBFC approval, but if they are now getting house on the edge of the park and Ebola syndrome through uncut, then all bets are off.
