The case is U.S sized.
This is normal for Network film Blu-rays. Slim cases, no slip-cover unless they're a limited edition.

Network Blu-rays are so cheap though. You know you want to.

Not, to my eyes, a massive improvement in picture quality on the already excellent Criterion DVD although I think colours are a bit better. This is probably from the same BFI internegative and any Criterion Blue- Ray is not likely to offer any further improvement.

Has anyone been able to compare this release to the German blu-ray (which I already have)? From the sounds of it it doesn't seem worth double dipping for this one, given the rather basic nature of the Network release and the unrestored picture.

I was going to pick it up next time Network have a sale...Ł5-6 for any of their titles that haven't been released recently, generally speaking, and they seem to have a sale a few times a year (every 3-4 months). Was gonna wait it out for this and Bad Timing, as both are reportedly 'okay' transfers.

For the music lovers amongst you:
There's a fabulous 2CD re-recording of Miklós Rózsa's Oscar-nominated score by British label Tadlow Music (and Belgian label Prometheus Records to be exact). Definitely worth checking out => http://www.tadlowmusic.com/2016/11/the-thief-of-bagdad/

I don't know if anyone will be answering this anytime soon, but does anyone know if there's a Region Free Blu-Ray of this anywhere? I really want this movie and have been waiting for Criterion to upgrade it for 5 years already.

Based on my research, there is no Region Free version.

Came in to say I bought an Australian edition on Amazon, and it worked on my Region A player.

Best part, while it's an import edition, it was fulfilled by Amazon, and for only $10. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I want to get the Network BD but am balking at the average PQ rating here. I saw the screencaps of the German edition on the Beaver and they were quite good. How does the Network release compare?

There are screenshots on Caps-a-holic now. The Network looks maybe too bright? But the German may be darker than intended to hide artifacting. (See the close-up of the eyes in particular.)

So do all the Blu-Rays share the same transfer basically?

this screams for a 4k release from indicator or another british label

its in my top 5 favorite movies of all time, I really wished this was treated like the red shoes, with the reverence, care and respect it deserves

Absolutely. This is still my favorite fantasy film ever.

Always remember that roof of the world speech (4:58 in video below since the forum doesn't seem to be keeping the timestamp)
