That's good to hear, I'd not heard of The Homesman before but after checking the case and seeing he directed it as well as starred (also I'll check out anything with John Lithgow) figured it was worth a chance.

It's a brilliant Western, one of the finest examples of the genre in modern times in fact. And yes, John Lithgow is always worth watching; the cast is generally brilliant (he even got Meryl Streep on board)!

I highly recommend The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada as well (and if you like Cormac McCarthy, his adaptation of The Sunset Limited is pretty good if you can get hold of it...not on Blu-ray though, only streaming).

£2.99 in my local Oxfam. Not the cheapest deal but I've never seen it in a store before, It isn't on HMV and other websites and the picture on the Amazon listing is of the German release so I guess it's out of print?

£4 in Cancer Research in Cambridge, perhaps a little expensive for a Blu-ray, but this has the extras like commentary tracks which the international Blu-rays omit. They also have a whole shelf of other Blu-rays (most are US imports), but nothing really notable as they have equivalent UK releases except for a (Spanish?) copy of 7 Days in Havana which lists English subs on the back.

Iíve pretty much given up with Norwich charity shops, very rarely find anything anymore! Though Oxfam does have some Bollywood DVDs when I last went in there.

Too much competition me thinks! Quite a few Norwich charity shoppers (me included) on the Blu-ray scene.

Since our office relocated outside the city centre I hardly get a chance to browse the Norwich chazzas now, hate to think what I've missed out on! Less competition for you all though

Fantastic bargain, I paid over a 100 times that when it came out.
You just helped inflation drop by 0.000001%

I don't often see many 'boutique' labels in my locals, but saw this in Oxfam today:

Didn't buy it - £6.99!

Blimey - you wait a while and suddenly 15 turn up at once (at ageUK).

Obviously I'd seen, got, or wouldn't buy, 13 of them; but I did pick up:

seen it ages ago on rental DVD (!), so happy to revisit it

never seen it

Both were 99p each.

I saw that on MGM:HD (R.I.P.) about ten years ago, and it just rubbed me up the wrong way for reasons I can't fathom.

And after all those years in 80s/90s of the cover staring out at me from the video shelf...

Not exactly a film you 'enjoy' and probably the very definition of brooding.

Liked the neon of Bangkok, and the storyline is pretty straightforward. One moment of violence (torture) had me squirming a bit.

Scott Thomas almost unrecognisable as the vengeful mother.

Overall I thought it was pretty good - 7/10.

Chuffed with todays haul.

£1 each British Heart Foundation (Dallas Buyers Club and Prometheus blu rays):

3 for £1 Cancer Research (Oldboy 2 disc SE, Jack Frost, Accursed Blood):

3 for £1 RSPCA (What Waits Below, Wire In The Blood: Prayer of the Bone, Living Dark):

50p each Scope (The Attendant, The Silencers):

50p each Shelter (haven't seen City of Men, but looks like a spiritual follow up to City of God, which I have seen and liked a lot. It's also a complete series 2 disc set!) (City of Men complete series, Searching for Sugar Man (great documentary on Sixto Rodriguez):
