It's my favorite Cronenberg film, next to The Fly.

Tim Lucas did a good job on this one

What are the chances of a UHD upgrade for this release?

Decent, but the last master was a digital transfer with no mention of the source.

Considering Metrograph is holding 35mm screenings in December around the USA, I'd say it's possible, but not coming anytime soon. You'd think they would just do 4K restoration screenings if they had it available, kinda like how they did with Possession last month.

Believe it was the same transfer as the US Criterion BD which was an HD scan of the interpositive.

Quote:
Supervised by cinematographer Mark Irwin and approved by director David Cronenberg, this high-definition digital transfer was created on a Spirit Datacine from a 35mm interpositive. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, scratches, splices, warps, jitter, and flicker were manually removed using the MTI's DRS system and Pixel Farm's PFClean system, while Digital Vision's DVNR system was used for small dirt, grain, and noise reduction.

Did anyone got their copy yet? I was wondering how the transfer looks?

Hasn't there been a hint towards Naked Lunch coming?

If you're referring to the UHD, it's meant to look incredible (my copy is en route). Head to the thread in the international 4K section to read the superlatives.

Postcards in other Arrow UK releases for Naked Lunch were included. They seem to have rights to other films owned by the same producer too, so they very well could be working on a 4K restoration/UHD disc.

EDIT: Here's Mike0284, another forum poster's, picture of the postcard:

[Show spoiler]

I think I saw mentions of people getting it too but I couldn't recall if a picture was posted.

I've had the Arrow exclusive edition for a few days but I haven't had a chance to have a look at it yet.

It looks great. I was wowed more than I was expecting. I have the criterion blu and didn't think I'd benefit so much from an upgrade and to be honest I only picked up the Arrow set after HMV mispriced it at 24.99. But now I'm glad I got it. I'm now getting a good feel for Cronenberg's preferences for his releases as I've also compared his director-approved criterion blu of Scanners with the sprightly Second Sight blu. I definitely go along with his preferences. Crash and Naked Lunch are my favourite Conenberg movies. They both are very dreamlike. And I'm also very happy with both the Arrow 4k LE and criterion releases respectively.

Fawking Zavvi notified me that the original artwork LE was available again, so I rushed to order it, but after two update e-mails, they're now telling me they're unable to get it. I went ahead I ordered the other LE.
