are Paramount releases usually region free? I've been waiting for this one.

Now updated to 30 September, preorder up on Amazon. (And yes, Paramount releases usually are region-free.)

This needs to be released in the U.S., but I don't think Paramount's said anything about it at all.

This so needs to be region-free...(please be region-free!)

Rota's score for this is one of my all-time favorites of any film ever.

Looking forward to this. I think the US should be getting this too, perhaps through WB.

I bought the Aussie release of this, and it plays fine in my PS3, along with the Aussie version's of Terms of Endearment and What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

picture quality (at least on aussie release) is not great. Looks like the same master as the old dvd (which was abysmal).

Seems like lots of overseas Paramount catalog BDs are like that. Their BDs of Sabrina and Funny Face, which have been released everywhere but the US, are apparently also from the old HD masters meant for the DVDs.

Sabrina is very watchable though, Funny Face is not great and neither is this. There is also The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance which is actually pretty good (although personally I found it a bit boosted).

For anyone still wondering, Amazon UK lists the release as being region-free! I just placed my order a bit ago

There shouldn't be any difference between the Aussie and the UK release at all.

Overlooked this release. Went with the Japanese release (not that it matters). Video quality is acceptable to my eyes. The audio on the other hand was pretty bad. Louder dialogue is completely plagued with artifacting. Everytime a character raises his or her voice one can hear distortion or what sounds like popping. Still, I'm glad I got it.

I received the UK version last week and watched it up to the intermission last night. There was a lot of grain on the first sequence due to the opticals for the titles, but after that, it looked very good. Nice color. No distortion on the dialogue. The sound was quite clear. I don't know why anyone would wait for something better than this. How much better can it get?
