Well if the audio was improved, I would double-dip. You're lucky you can't hear the distortion of the dialogue on your system. It's pretty darned noticeable with headphones.

I'm watching with a 5.1 speaker system and I usually get irritated by distortion.

I would advise that you don't try to hear it. One of those 'once you hear it... can't un-hear' type issues. The same issue is present over the dialogue on Arrow's release of The Long Goodbye. I didn't used to hear problems like that back when I was using a 5.1 setup, but now that I'm using headphones a whole new world of distracting audio issues are mine to explore

Issues aside, this is a great movie that I'm glad to have.

I wonder if it's an EQ spike. I had a friend who swore up and down that he had a blown tweeter, but other people said it sounded fine to them. It turned out that it was a very narrow spike in a high frequency that would make his eardrums buzz if it was too loud. He dipped it down with a tight notch filter and all was fine again.

Could be. Can't say for sure as I'm no audio expert. What I'm hearing is this subtle, yet noticeable, tinny/garbled effect on the dialogue and only the dialogue. Effects and music sound fine for the full duration of the movie.

So is the UK BD the best version of this film to date?
Also, does it come with that stupid warning of mild language destroying the cover?
I ask because there's many pictures of the BD online without the warning.
Though it's not a deal breaker for me.

This film is definitely one of my favorites.

This film is definitely one of my favorites.

Any BD you buy of this title, UK or otherwise, will be the same transfer and encode. Some of the releases you see online may be foreign releases without rating logos.

Wow...50 years. The film or at least some aspects of it still seem too contemporary or "young", if u will, to be that old.

I just bought a copy from Germany. Paramount made this a rather universal release, with menus that can be selected in 14 languages. The UK, Australian, and German releases would be the same region-free disc.

The picture quality is certainly better than the comment about an Australian copy, and the resolution is better than a DVD, but could be substantially better. It is a bit flat, and could do with more contrast. The sound was just fine.

How much better can it get? Watch the new 4K version on Paramount Plus.

Unless it has recently been updated, the version on Paramount+ is the old HD master and not the 4K restoration done 5 years ago.

That is too bad. Why would Paramount go to all the trouble of doing a new restoration, and not include it on their new streaming service? The restoration in the article I linked was last year, not five years ago.

No, the 4K restoration was done 5 years ago. I saw it in a theater around 3-4 years ago and it played in UK theaters in May 2016. The link you posted is just a repost of the press release from August 22, 2016.

I think this is the Second time that Umbrella released this, Third time if you count the DVD. I wonder if it's a better Transfer, seeing as there was a 4K scan done.

Anyone have a clue?

I've been trying to find out, including by asking via Umbrella's Facebook page, but no luck.

It's frustrating. Is there a contact email for Umbrella? I'll check that out and see if they respond.

I've checked around the Usual Suspects and found no reviews either.

Whiteberry, above says that there's been a a 4K Scan done fairly recently. It would seem that it was done for Streaming or a New Blu-ray or 4K.
