The version in iTunes is listed as Compass. My older HD does not show what studio it is on my phone. I’ll have to check my Apple TV later tonight. I’m not going to hold my breath though.

Should still show via phone using the iTunes Store app under Purchased, if not already along the bottom then you’ll find it under More.

The old listing for Halloween was from Trancas International Films Inc. They also relisted Halloween 4 and 5, so if those go 4K, the older listings won't upgrade either.

Trancas and Compass are the same company so they just trying to get more money out of us. Contact Apple and tell them about your issue so they’ll at least give you some rental credits. Maybe after more this type reports they will finally fix problem with their listings (Scream, Scream 2, Pulp Fiction etc.)

All 4K upgrades have been done by Paramount, any purchases made prior to the Paramount takeover will not be upgraded and remain under license with Lionsgate. Edit: According to Wikipedia Halloween was also previously under license with Lionsgate which since changed to Shout Factory for the latest 4K Release. Funny that when I search Halloween in AppleTV app I see Compass as distributor and the button next to the movie icon is resume not buy (I own only former version, it plays in HD). Last edited by asertywny; 10-23-2022 at 04:28 AM. |

They don’t even have the power to force a distributor to give a 4K upgrade on a title that’s been re-listed by that very same distributor. Quote:
However if you scroll down to How To Watch you should also see amongst the available options for ATV, one will say purchased and the other will have the option to buy. Last edited by -Gonzo-; 10-23-2022 at 07:52 AM. |

I would argue that they do, they just don't bother to exercise it. Relisting clearly violates the spirit of Apple's upgrade policy, but Apple chooses to only enforce the letter of the law.

Especially in the case of “Halloween”, which is an Independent film, and not a studio that Apple announced would offer free upgrades. |

Yeah, same studio relists are BS. But I can see why the upgrade policy wouldn’t apply to things like Miramax where it physically changed studios. When you bought the movie you have the rights for it under the original studio. Apple isn’t going to play a second studio for rights to the film for you.

Here in AU I’ve been doubly gypped.
* Mad Max 2-4 are distributed by Warner Bros and are 4K. But the original is Kennedy Miller and only HD. * Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Beyond are distributed by Paramount Pictures and are 4K. But Star Trek Into Darkness is Paramount Pictures “Corporation” and only HD. |

I was very surprised to see that House Of The Dragon is only showing as HD in the store. The show was broadcast in 4K DV on HBO max. I thought for sure it would be 4K DV DA. I decided to order the 4K Disc set for season 1 but this reminds me of the old days where I'd watch a show in HD on satellite and it was only available for sale on DVD going backwards. I'm not sure if Itunes offers any show in 4K but this would have been a good start.

Whether that’s an Apple decision or a TV Studio decision I don’t think anyone actually knows. |

Okay, only now realised there's been no physical release of MM in AU either, so makes more sense. STID on the other hand... |

Could be coincidence, but a week after I emailed Kennedy Miller MM has gone 4K in AU!
Maybe I should try Paramount next. |
