You might want to wait until Network have one of their sales which happen a few times a year (if you follow them on twitter they announce when they're on) - I managed to pick it up direct from them for £11.62.

Anyone know if we can pre-order Black Narcissus from Network directly? I just sold my ITV copy thinking I could pre-order from them but it's just a release notification thingy...

Hoping they will open preorders soon as they are still cheaper than amazon. Sign up for the notify and it will let you know when you can order

Yeah hoping it stays at that price, sold my copy for around that price to cover the costs (I simply wanted this version for the Powell/Scorsese commentary). Saying that it's a no-brainer anyway, and the artwork's better too! Let's hope they'll do pre-orders soon.

Unfortunately they only usually let you place the order from day of release onwards, apart from signing up for the notification you can't actually place a pre order at all, which is a shame. I'm sure the price that is listed currently will remain until release day though, or there's no point in them listing a price at all.

Morning everyone.

For a long time I've been waiting for a Blu-ray Disc release of A Matter of Life and Death.

Up until now this film has been released on home video by Granada/ITV DVD. Black Narcissus, ditto.

With BN now coming out on Network, I wonder if ITV have sold their films to the, or there's some sort of release deal. And if so, is AMOLAD looking more likely?

Network have had a deal with ITV for years. In fact, they also released Black Narcissus on DVD several years ago. So, a release of A Matter of Life and Death is now neither more nor less likely than it once. But, I'm in full agreement - it's one of my most wanted Blu-Rays so I hope someone releases it soon!

Yes, I discovered that not long after posting.

A full 2K restoration has been in the cinema in France over the past month - hopefully that's a good sign.

Quiller Memorandum, Hands Of The Ripper and His and Hers preorders at amazon have just been reduced to just over £11...hopefully Black Narcissus and Four Feathers will be the last to follow suit.

Just per-ordered "Hands of the Ripper". It will be a double dip as i have the Synapse edition but this one has the commentary and if i support the release there may be similar releases in the future.

BLUE PLAQUE FOR POWELL AND PRESSBURGER

Film-makers Michael Powell (1905-1990) and Emeric Pressburger (1902-1988) have been commemorated today with an English Heritage blue plaque at Dorset House on Gloucester Place, Marylebone in London. The plaque was unveiled by film director Martin Scorsese; Thelma Schoonmaker, film editor and widow of Michael Powell; Columba Powell, his son; and Archie Macdonald, Pressburger’s great grandson. It was from Flat 120 in this apartment block that Powell and Pressburger oversaw the production of many of their greatest films, including 'The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp' (1943), 'A Matter of Life and Death' (1946), 'Black Narcissus' (1947) and 'The Red Shoes' (1948).

I've just noticed that Network have licenced a total of 450 British films from StudioCanal for DVD/Blu-Ray/theatrical release. A Hitchcock silent boxset is not as unlikely as it once seemed.
