Anybody own Princess Mononoke?

I've been waiting for Princess Mononoke to be released on Blu-ray for a long time, and although there is still no release date for the US, it appears to have already been released in a few countries recently, including Brazil. However, the database here does not list any English language options for the Brazilian version:

Ideally, I would like to find a version that has both English and Portuguese options, so I was hoping that somebody who already owns it could confirm the lack, or presence, of English language options.


**The database also shows that the Japan version has Portuguese audio, but I think it may be a mistake since it does not list Portuguese subtitles, and Portuguese is not listed at all for the title on YesAsia or Play-Asia. But even if it turns out that the Japan version does have Portuguese, it's very expensive and the cover is bad.

I have the JPN version, I'd go with that one- it wouldn't be the first time that overseas ghibli blurays turn out to be worse in terms of PQ / DNR etc. Especially since jpn is region free and has the audio option you'll looking for, I wouldn't hesitate.

Could you please respond to the above question of the conflicting reports of whether the Japanese version actually does have Portuguese audio and/or subtitles? If you could put your disc in and check the menu, I would very much appreciate it. I would hesitate to spend that much without knowing that it has the Portuguese audio and subtitles. Otherwise, I would just buy the UK version and save a lot of money.

I more included to go for the forthcoming UK version, surely that would be much cheaper?

I'm sure it would be much cheaper, but I am trying to find a version that has both English and Portuguese language options.

BTW, the UK version is not forthcoming, it is already out (released on May 19 of this year). And according to the database, it has Japanese and English audio, and English subtitles.

The BDInfo scans (scans are at the bottom of the page) for both the single disc release and the version from the box set show Portuguese audio tracks (no subs though).

That's good information, thank you. So it appears to be confirmed that the Japanese version has English audio and Subs, and Portuguese audio but no subs. And Asian discs usually have Brazilian Portuguese, right?

I still hope that somebody with the Brazilian version will come along and confirm the language options on that disc.

It doesn't have Portuguese. Here's the information that an owner of the UK disc provided me:

I just checked both the DVD and Blu-Ray and here are the options under the setups on the main menu for both:
DVD - English 5.1
- Japanese 5.1 (with English Subtitles)
- English 5.1 (captions for Hard of Hearing

Blu-Ray - English 5.1
- Japanese 5.1 (with Subtitles)

Here's a video of the Brazil version. Some Japanese reverse imported it as it was dirt cheap, if you look closely, you can see the BD specs on the back of the case. There's also no rating logo's on the disc and gorgeous cover artwork on the inside.

Thanks for the link to the video. I wasn't able to see detail on my device, but I'll check it out again on my computer when I get home.

Any information about where the Brazilian version was bought cheaply by the Japanese guys?

I know the picture's a mess, but it is possible to see that it shows Japanese and Portuguese audio on the back, and only Portuguese subs. So the cover reflects what is currently in the database. But as we know, language options on covers are frequently incomplete, so it would still be nice if anybody is able to confirm what's actually on the disc.

BTW, the only site I could find the Brazilian Blu-ray being sold is livrariacultura.com.br, so maybe it's not widely available in Brazil.

I also just noticed that the LC listing has "exclusivo" on it, so maybe the film is not sold anywhere else.
