Anyone got any info on this release? Any good? Was looking for other John Candy films and didn't think this had been released anywhere. |

Just finished watching this.
It IS region-free. Had no problem playing the disc as I switched between regions. It's also a pretty decent transfer, or at least as decent as a catalogue 80s movie gets. Grain is abundant and fairly consistent, plenty of detail. Colours are natural and I didn't really detect any kind of 'interference'. Pleasantly surprised with this one. No extras to speak of, which is fine given the price and state of the transfer. There's an English audio track (DTS-HD 2.0), and Dutch subs which can be turned off either in flight or at the main menu. If you're in the UK then this is less than Ł10, and is fulfilled by Amazon. It's eligible for Prime, hence you can get it the next day. All in all this was a great spot, well priced and conveniently supplied, and most importantly isn't too shabby! ![]() |

THANK YOU! I love watching John Hughes movies around holiday season and this one has been out of the rotation since I got an HDTV. It's gonna be great to see it again this year.

With it being licensed out by Hollywood, I hold hope another company can license it in another locality and chuck a bunch of extras on there. Could you imagine an hour long documentary about Candy's career? ![]() |

I received mine today and must say at first I thought we'd all been duped into buying a pirate copy. The cover has to be the worst I own.
But spinning through the disc I was very pleased with what I saw. Just the textures of Chet's jumpers were enough to make me look forward to sitting down and watching the rest of the film again. And anyone who disagrees can go and find themselves a spin cycle. |

Was pleasantly surprised at how much better this looks over the DVD counterparts.
I currently have the " The John Candy Comedy Favorites Collection", on DVD. I had the non-Anamorphic DVD...I played both DVD transfers side by side on a computer, and noticed quite a bit difference in image quality ( in addition to one being Anamorphic ) between the two. The John candy collection transfer was much cleaner. This movie finally looks and sounds great on Bluray...thanks in part to HD Master audio. Ya, sure, there's room for improvement, but not by much. Grain is present, but well reserved, and in no way impedes on detail. Recommended transfer....B+ Sound......A- Extras......F Last edited by formula72; 06-03-2015 at 06:37 PM. |

Just received and watched last night.
I see what you guys mean about the cover. Ouch. I did come up with a cool solution though. I trimmed the bottom of the old DVD cover and used a spare blu ray case with a 14mm spine so it matches and now have a presentable looking Great Outdoors blu-ray ![]() PQ and AQ wise I was very pleased. Gone is the oppressive letter boxing of the DVD that occupied nearly two thirds of the screen. The more serious print damage is no longer apparent (some still remains - pops, flecks etc) but much improved over the DVD. Heavy but tidy looking grain and no obvious signs of digital tampering. Greater detail, overall clarity and a lossless soundtrack. I'm glad to have this in my collection finally. Now…. bring on Who's Harry Crumb! |
