Am I missing something here? Where does it state that it's the old restoration and not the new French one, which was confirmed by 2-perf (was it?) months back over in the US thread as coming to the UK at some point from a label other than Arrow?

Here's a reminder of what the French release looked like compared to the old Arrow.

Perhaps this is just a case of Shameless being utterly shite at promotion and not stating that it's a new scan?

I dunno, maybe they said something about it but had hit the text limit with their 8000 words about how amazing their inclusion of the four different colorations on the opening were so it got cut off!!

Since it's Shameless, I'm unconvinced that it would look better even if they're given access to that French release's scan. Fingers crossed, I guess.

Yellow tint? Shameless discs usually have this without even trying. I expect another Four Flies line removal type mess, but at least it's optional this time.

I really dislike the way they've always taken it upon themselves to meddle with the cuts of films by inserting footage, removing lines etc. Great as extras, but not their place to change the feature itself. Maybe they finally realised, hence the option.

A shame Arrow doesn't have this anymore, would have loved to have had a remastered set like last year's City of the Living Dead.

Maybe hopefully Arrow will do House by the Cemetery.

I got both Arrow and Grindhouse editions.
The French from pics does not look that much better then Grindhouse.
Plus shameless is not exactly best for bringing out good transfers.

Shameless approach almost all their releases with the same immaturity, whereas other labels attempt to present these genre films with some respectibility. Shameless live up to their name and think the biggest selling point is the T&A. Granted, when Arrow started off they also had a similar approach, thankfully they outgrew it.

Confused by this. Are you talking about extras because the Cult Films Opera had over 90 minutes worth. I don't even own it since I had already bought the earlier 'standard' US edition by Scorpion, but I feel like the UK blu-ray should be strongly defended as regards 'barebones' status.

Yeah I've not got high hopes really for the compression being any better, but let's face it, it can't get much worse than the French release! I actually think the master looks OK and is a clear step up from the current releases. We just need a company with a competant compressionist to release the damn thing!

It's also possible some noise reduction was applied to the French release, but then the compression's so shit the whole transfer has this blurry look to it anyway, so hard to tell.

They've already released The New York Ripper twice with the 2nd release including 15 secs NOT on the US BD.

Yep,that's the reason I bought it even if was cut.The new Blu Underground disc will have the missing scene and will be uncut as well making it the definitive version.I will maybe buy this too for the exlusive extras since their releases usually have low prices,hopefully they don't mess this up too,its their chance to clear their name a bit.

To be fair, the opening has been a matter of some debate for many many years. The press release explains it. Did you read it? It was shot in color, accidentally released once on blu-ray in black and white (and recalled), and there are continuing arguments about whether it was intended to be true sepia or yellow-tinted. So it's kinda neat we have all 4 options.

People can have their opinions of Shameless, and I certainly tend to agree, but lets be fair - if Arrow included all 4 of these openings they would be praised for it. Because it's Shameless doing it, people are using it as another reason to ridicule them.
