Default Why Limited 4K Availability for New Titles?

I've started collecting lots of Prime No Rush Shipping credits thinking I could use Amazon to buy new movies, and went to try and get Lego Movie 2 and How to Train Your Dragon 3 today, and Amazon offers neither film in UHD??!!

I normally am a VUDU or FandangoNow person, so just curious if this is normal or does Amazon consistently not support much UHD?

No, they don't, they have some Disney and some Sony available in UHD, that seems to be it for Amazon. I have Amazon connected to MA, but I never use it for streaming.

Amazon has most Sony titles in 4K, most Disney movies in 4K, and some Lionsgate and indie films.

I like to correct myself when I discover I have misspoke, and it appears I have done so above.

Amazon not only has most Sony titles in 4K, most Disney movies in 4K, and some Lionsgate and indie films, they also now sell some Paramount and MGM titles as well.

How stupid is this Amazon page?:

Everything 4K & HDR

Amazon's 4K webpage linked above list several Fox, Warner Bros. and Universal films as available to purchase in 4K. I wondered if it was a mistake or a sign of things to shortly come. Then I realized how many titles shouldn't be on that list, period.

Titles listed include:

[Show spoiler]
  • Inception
  • Ready Player One
  • The Revenant
  • E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
  • Logan
  • Blade Runner 2049
  • The Dark Knight Rises
  • Deadpool
  • Serenity
  • Life Of Pi
  • The Shape Of Water
  • Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Apollo 13
  • Goodfellas
  • First Man
  • Man Of Steel
  • Serenity
  • The Matrix
  • Blade Runner: The Final Cut
  • Pacific Rim
  • Aquaman
  • Predator (1987)
  • Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
  • Pitch Perfect
  • Pitch Perfect 2
  • Pitch Perfect 3
  • Crazy Rich Asians
  • Game Night
  • Super Troopers 2
  • Isle Of Dogs
  • Harry Potter 1-8
  • The Lego Batman Movie
  • The Matrix
  • Batman Begins
  • Mad Max: Fury Road
  • Phantom Thread
  • Get Out
  • Split

Then I realized it also listed titles like
  • Blade Runner: Director's Cut
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
  • Star Wars - Episode 7: The Force Awakens
  • Professor Marston And The Wonder Women
  • Super Troopers
  • Treasure Planet
  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
  • Dawn Of The Dead (2004)
  • King Kong (1933)
  • Halloween (2007) (The Weinstein Company)
  • The Invasion
  • Etc.

And the 4K UHD TV section had "The Simpsons" season 24 and "The Incredible Hulk" season 2 as well, the latter of which is only available for sale in SD.

WOW! I'm surprised I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere, but it seems that Amazon is now selling/renting SOME 4K UHD titles from Universal Studios.

So far, it's only a rental for "Trolls World Tour", but it's a start.

UPDATE: I didn't realize that "Scoob!" from Warner Bros. is also available in 4K on Amazon.
