Boutique Labels (List)

Greetings fellow collectors,

I apologize if this list already exists here on the forums, if so I'll go there and this thread can be dismissed.

Please let me know of any labels missing from this list, and if any of the labels I have listed do not qualify as Boutique.

Definition: Boutique Label

Boutique Labels generally release culturally or artistically significant, obscure/rare, cult, mondo, foreign, or otherwise unconventional or uncommon films. They are usually released with the highest level of quality in mind, often include exclusive supplemental material and premium packaging.

This is the first I've heard of Njutafilms and Film4, so I couldn't really comment on them. Mill Creek tends to be a bargain label specializing in catalog releases. In the past, Sony have been their primary source, though they may have expanded a bit.
Well Go, like Kino Lorber, is a somewhat larger label I believe, though could most probably be considered a boutique label due to their heavy emphasis on Asian cinema. Mongrel Media, again, is a label I'm not real familiar with, although I've heard the name on numerous occasions.

I wasn't sure if you were sticking strictly to North American labels or not. If not, I could certainly add a few more.

You're missing Olive. And Blue Underground. A few smaller ones I like include Drafthouse Films (now defunct), Cinelicious Pics (now "Arbelos"), Film Movement, abkco (for Alejandro Jodorowsky's films), Mondo Vision (for Andrzej Zulawski's films), Grasshopper Film...

This subforum is in itself a pretty good list of notable US labels.

My favourite label in the UK is Third Window Films. If you really wanna go international, there's all kinds of Korean labels that come to mind: CJ, KOFA, FNC Add Culture, Plain, etc... Many more. You've got your work cut out for you.

I would be happy to expand the list to all boutique labels globally, ill even sort them as such and try and find good store fronts for them.

Give me some time and a little help here and there and ill expand this thread to be a comprehensive source for browsing and purchasing boutique titles at best prices.

Cannot believe I missed/forgot about Mondo Vision, especially since I am a huge Żuławski fan. Owning both Limited Edition blu rays of Possession and La Note Bleue.

Possibly, but anime companies could almost be their own category. The active ones include FUNimation, Sentai Filmworks (and sister company Maiden Japan), Viz Media, Discotek, Aniplex (who could be considered a cousin of FUNimation since they're both owned by Sony), as well as (to a far lesser extent) Media Blasters, AnimEigo, and Anime Midstream. However, several other labels have released anime too, such as Shout Factory and Mill Creek, as well as major studios like Sony, Disney, and Warner. Also, some anime companies have released some non-anime, notably Media Blasters and FUNimation used to as well (they even handled DEGRASSI on DVD back in the day).
