I never keep slipcovers on the shelves in my library. I used to keep all of 'em, piled up in the back of my home theater closet, just in case I ever changed my mind... but a few months ago I finally cleansed myself of fifteen years of slipcovers. It felt great. I even got rid of the slipcovers for movies I'd shot -- and those had my name on 'em!
![]() My only exceptions are titles that have an outer "box" that's one step up from a slip, like the Kino releases of METROPOLIS and BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN, or like the 4k JAWS, which has an outer lenticular 3D package that houses booklet and amaray case.... or the rare all-cardboard releases that are "held together" by the outer slipcase, like the original Criterion BDs for THE THIRD MAN and THE 400 BLOWS. But normal slips... straight into recycling. |

I collect Slipcovers as part of my movies collection. It’s a fun hobby. Only missing about 6-7 that were released w/slips that I don’t own out of my 1,100 + blurays. I’m only missing 1 slipcover for my UHD’s
[Show spoiler] Continuing the hobby for this format too. I only collect slips for movies that I purchase though. I don’t collect Slipcovers just for the Slipcovers. Any extras I’ve accumulated over the years are stored and I’m always keeping an eye out for others to trade with. I’m sure LAZ buys movies even when they aren’t released with them. LoL. I have a lot of hard to find and limited slips from the old days, and to this day I still love collecting. We use to have a good number of us Slipcover collectors back in the old days of BD. Good times. And to answer OPDoes your blu-ray set or collection feel incomplete knowing you don't have it and it exists? I have my BD’s in two different areas. The displayed BD’s w/ Slipcovers and SteelBooks. The other area is BD’s that were released without Slipcovers. Last edited by recS-12; 05-22-2021 at 08:00 PM. |

I prefer slips over no slips. They look cleaner on the shelf IMO. Having a collection or a tv series when some have slips and others don't makes my OCD crazy.
I like lenticular, embossed, and boutique blurays like shout factory with slips especially. The boutique ones are nice because they have alternate cover art on the bluray case cover so I flip that to what is not on the slip. But I am not going to NOT get a movie over it or pay for a slip by itself. At least so far I won't... I said that about steelbooks... now 150 steelbooks later I have warmed up to them. I blame BB for this... curse you, Game of Thrones and Lotr/Hobbit Steel book sets... |

I don't really care for slips or steelbooks, except for keeping bulging jewel cases closed.
All the double-triple-quadruple dipping (The 4k UHD 'Breathless' is No. 5 in my collection...) I try to stuff into one jewel case. If it doesn't fit any more, I have a 'DVD Cellar' in the garage. There are about five thousand dvd's in my collection (still a lot to put into my collection here...), started collecting in January 2000. As long as it is possible, I'll keep everything, throw nothing away. Which helps I suppose, since I am lending out all my titles to my students, and not all of them return the stuff unblemished... But it seems the best way to show them films they never heard of and/or thought of before. I'll start with dvd's, certainly, but to some of them I lend my 4K UHD's too. If it initially came with a slip, I'll wait to find it used with slip, rather than buy new without. Even if its a few bucks more... Unless its an expensive oop disc that I'm getting a great deal on, then I'll buy used w/o slip. eg Meet the Robinsons 3D i bought for $2.50

I've usually kept them, but I'm wondering if I should start tossing them as the cases will look more uniform on the shelf without them.
The slip cover that came with Big is supposed to play "Heart and Soul", but the battery is practically dead so it just attempts to start playing and dies immediately. |

They are very important to me. I won't buy a title released without a slipcover and if it doesn't come with a slipcover I'll make sure I get the slipcover first before I even consider buying the movie. I don't buy slipcovers for movies I'm not interested in though. So far I'm only missing the slipcover for the European release of Oblivion.

I don't care about the slipcovers at all and I've noticed that people are buying them on ebay. I don't care for them and all of these Scream Factory horror slip covers that I have are going on ebay in a lot.
