If a movie comes with a slip, I prefer to have it.

If a movie came with a slip, but I don't have it, it does feel kind of "incomplete" to me. So I keep an eye out. But I rarely pay for slips on the aftermarket.

My movie shelves are sorted strictly alphabetical, not by genre / actor / anything else. So uniformity was never an option.

I almost always recycle mine, especially if the inner label reprints the slip verbatim. I mean, what's the point? I've sold a few (years ago), but the hassle's not worth it at all to me. So....in the bin they go.

A slip seems to make sense for a special edition.

If I buy a movie that has one, great. They look nice on a shelf. I'll get the version that has one if I have the option.

But I'd much rather have great art on the cover to begin with, and the film is ultimately what's important. I'm in a Vinegar Syndrome facebook group where sometimes you would think the slipcovers is what people are collecting rather than the blu-rays or the films.

Default Slips make the collection

I used to throw all the slips away to make room for additional movies on my wall. However, I came to learn that slip cases usually indicate the Blu Ray was bought closer to time of new release. Makes me feel as though I bought a first addition vs re-release of a movie.

If a movie comes with a slipcover that is different than the art in the case, I'll keep it. If it's exactly the same, I'll throw it out.

Buying a movie is about the movie and not the packaging to me.

If Iím not 100% sure Iíll receive a slipcover Iíll either buy the Steelbook or purchase a copy off of eBay that is guaranteed to have a slipcover. With 4K discs 80% of my collection is SBís and out of the 500+ 4K BRs, the only movie I can remember being forced to buy ďnakedĒ was The Martian - Extended edition (still on the look out). This is in addition to premium releases from Blufans, HDZeta, Manta Lab, Nova Media, Titans of Cult and Special Editions from Zavvi, FNAC, Amazon Japan, etcÖ

3D releases are more complicated and I have a weak spot for Lenticular slipcovers so I have multiple copies of many movies. 3Dís glory days are over and the US rarely gets 3D releases but itís usually WB movies or remastered movies from the 50ís or the 80ís and these are rarely released with slipcovers these days. I buy ALL Warner Bros 3D releases from Best Buy Canada bc the US releases never come w/ slips while Canada ALWAYS gets a slip with the first pressing.

There are quite a few movies I held off purchasing for a long time bc I couldnít find a slipcover or Steelbook. Once my 3D collection hit 700 I started purchasing the blurays that were never released with slips or in SB but I keep them in a separate storage case separate from my main built-in blu-ray cabinets.

For me, they are almost as important as the movie itself. Iíve often said I collect packaging and the movies are incidental

Iíd love to see if someone knows where I can get some of my missing 3D Bluís or the 4K Martian - Extended Edition.

I donít buy many 2D blu-rays bc Iím running out storage space w/ over 2000 4K & 3D BRís and streaming provides just about the same PQ and Iím not nearly as picky about slips except for my favorite movies like Elvira: Mistress of the Night, Jupiter Ascending, Phantom of the Opera, Little Shop of Horrors and others which have recently been replaced with 4K SBs like LOTR, Hobbit, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Goonies, Dirty Dancing, Home Alone, etcÖ

The Martian never same with a slipcover in 4K as far as I know. The entry on this site doesn't say slipcover with original pressing.

I'm a huge slipcover guy. I think every first print run should include them. They're technically a collector's item.

I used to collect slips & even bought a few from resellers here. But I've been putting my movies in binders for the last two years so they don't matter to me any more.

All mine go in a box in storage. I don't like having to deal with them so they just go in storage. I don't think I'll sell my stuff but if my kids do they will have fun matching them back up.

Maybe.

It's not a big issue to me. Some of the boutique labels have really nice slip covers, like Vinegar Syndrome and those 88 releases with the soft touch slips. The standard studio stuff with the barcode cutout in the back and replicating the same art that's on the disc cover, along with some critic blurbs and RT fresh logos, can go right in the trash. Plus those cheap studio slips tend to fit too tight and can be a pain in the arse to out back on.

I'm borderline compulsive with slipcovers. I've purchased a few from the good folks of this board. I've lost a lot of Scream Factory blurays because it was on the shelf without a slip. Today, I'm a lil more lax on that moratorium, because so many films are going OOP faster than I can find them. For standard studio blus I'm not as selective. But for boutique labels, like Scream, Arrow, Shout Select - I must have the slip.
I only have two Scream CEs that do not have slips, and I have nearly 200 Scream titles.

Regarding 4K, I have only 1 without the slip; Beetlejuice, and that's because I got the special edition Book box. The Matrix, Batman films, and others I've gotten the individual blus for the slips instead of the box.

I always keep them when I do get them. I used to not care, until I started reading the forums on this site. I don't normally buy on day one so if I order a release online and I get a slip it's like a little bonus, I don't expect to get one. I recently received my small order from the recent Shout sale and was surprised two had slips, Kalifornia and Mr. Mom. I was really hoping Streets of Fire had one, but oh well, no biggie.

Personally I really like slipcovers. However if it's a movie I think is alright or the poster is okay, than it doesn't matter if it has one or not. But if its a movie I love or a nice edition of it than I hope it has one.

Imho whenever a slipcover is identical to the inlay I think it’s just a waste. Creative design does it for me, but a slipcover is never a dealbreaker. I can live without it.

However I’m very fond of digipacks. Most people seem to hate them but personally I feel they have a special place for me.
