There are a few that I wish would show up for itunes or vudu :
History of the World Part I ( Dom Deluise ) Haunted Honeymoon ( Gene Wilder, Dom Deluise ) Young Frankenstein - I've only been able to stream on Hulu with a Showtime suscription. ( Gene Wilder ) There is something up with Gene Wilder, Dom Deluise and Mel Brooks in regards to streaming rights... |

Some of these (like the Pippi Longstocking films) don't have very good HD masters (or are actually upconverted SD) and would be up to the rights holder to create or have one on hand.
Others that have HD masters are ether no desire for the rights holder to put them up on the platform or licencing issues (rights holder wants a hefty asking price + % of the sales on certain titles and Apple refuse to pay that much). Some of the Fox titles not on iTunes are available at other providers, but not all of them. Some on iTunes are SD only while in native HD elsewhere. Case in point, 1982's I The Jury (which I believe transfers as MA) is 4:3 SD on iTunes while HD on Vudu, MS Store, Amazon Video, and Youtube/Google Play. Fright Night Part 2 has a complex rights issue that also effects home video and TV rights, so it isn't necessarily Apple's fault. The Cannonball Run isn't available digitally anywhere and hasn't aired on TV in many years. The HBO Blu-Ray and DVD is also OOP, suggesting some sort of rights tie up with 20th Century Fox (US theatrical distributor and had US TV rights), HBO/Warner (who had video rights and Pay-TV rights at venues like HBO and Cinemax), and Fortune Star (who owns the catalog of producer Golden Harvest). |

Mel Brooks movies in general seem to have multiple rights issues. To Be or Not to Be not available anywhere. Young Frankenstein as mentioned. History of the World Part 1 only on Google.

Apple don't own the movies so it's not their fault when something isn't there. I assume they have some sort of rule about porn and perhaps other 'extreme' content but anything else is just a case of the distributor not making it available. Doubtless many films are going to be lost in rights hell as they move to another media, especially one that wasn't in existence when the film was made, for so many films there just won't be the financial incentive to figure out the legal issues.

The original Pippi films are all digitally available on Amazon Prime. There is also a restored Blu-ray from Hen’s Tooth. They look better than a good number of catalogue titles already available digitally.
