Decided to order this instead of the 4K trilogy. I actually prefer the Japanese cut of part one, so I'll just stick with the existing Eureka release that includes it.

I'm surprised with that.

Also surprising is that the theatrical release of Police Story 2 is not in 4K.

Fortune Star would not let Eureka touch the 4k master. They neither were allowed to correct the color grading nor to re-cut the theatrical version from it. That is why it was only included in SD on the previous Blu-ray. The possibility to include it in HD this time came with a different master taken from a 35mm print.

Hmm, interesting. I find the extended cut all but unwatchable and was excited Criterion included the theatrical in HD on their set. I wouldn’t mind having a clean version.

Having said that, there is a special place in my heart for the minimally restored version Criterion used. I’d love to see that as a standard special feature on all HK movie releases. The midnight movie version!

I just can’t decide what to order, the UHD trilogy or just 3. I own both Eureka and Criterion Blu-rays. But these are probably my favorite Jackie Chan movies…

Don't understand why they were allowed to redo the colour grading for Dragons Forever yet not Police Story :/ Especially when the colours & contrast were clearly wrong

They did after that but The Mole made it seem like this particular issue was still relevant for the re-release

Shout and Criterion were also allowed to correct the color of the Bruce Lee films, it would be strange if the situation with Police Story 1 and 2 is different. So there is hope that Eureka can correct the color of Police Story 1 and 2.

I have the Mediumrare Bruce Lee set. Really hoping for a Eureka / 88 4K boxset once Mediumrare's licence expires. We could finally get definitive versions with the help of the great people on this forum!

Arrow are strongly rumoured to be releasing the Lee films in 4K.

Did Fortune Star create a 4K master of the theatrical version?

I have always assumed they did.

For the time being I'm going to go with just this Blu Ray. Perhaps I'll get the UHD's in the future, the first film in particular would look great in 4K.

I don't mind the U.S. cut but earlier this year I was finally able to see the HK theatrical version and see the film how it was meant to be viewed. It was awesome!

I'm looking forward to this release, a bit of a Grail release for many I imagine.

Really excited for this one. For now, the Blu-ray will suffice. I might grab the 4K set if it gets reissued, since I'm not 4K yet.

AFAIK they did only create a 4k master of the extended version.

Would be superb to have them over here. I really like the look of the Criterion box set but I'm not region free unfortunately. A box set of the same calibre in 4k, yes please!
