"Re-release of a classic Horror title by BFI".
So does that refer to the Ghost Stories For Christmas Volume One blu-ray, or something else?
Or am I being dense?

It states a "re-release", so perhaps it will be The Innocents, which is out of print? Regardless, we'll find out on the 8th of September!

The Innocents is a Fox title so no chance.

Of course it doesn’t say it’s a British horror classic.

I hope it's Dead of Night, it is a Studio Canal title as you say but I'm sure 'The Day The Earth Caught Fire' is as well.

Yes. They're M R James in the main, but one from later on (not in the vol 1 set) is a Dickens adaptation as it just fits the theme, so yeah I think Dickens-like ghost stories is a pretty accurate description.

Most of these are good, particularly the earlier ones but I thought the first one that was not based on a pre existing story, that had a more contemporary setting was really awful.

More traditional English ghost stories, one of the films The Signalman is a Dickens short that has almost been transcribed direct from page and filmed, much like watching a stage play, and most of the others are adaptations of MR James (as stated above) so they do not feel like contemporary TV horror shorts, they're very authentic in recreating that slowburn creeping dread of late Victorian/early Edwardian horror.

Yeah I agree - if you mean the one with Peter Bowles as the husband that was filmed at Avebury (but, bizarrely, made absolutely no use of the location).
'Stigma' it was called (thanks, Wikipedia).
I just found it thoroughly depressing.

The second of the 'new' episodes though (1978's 'The Ice House') I really enjoyed.

Yes that's it, very disappointing. How odd that they didn't make the most of the Avebury location. I agree The Ice House was a big step up.

So did we find out? (it's now 13th Sept)

I've been looking but can't find any info on this "re-release of a classic horror title by the BFI"

There was that other thing that happened on 8th September that may have understandably paused any planned announcements.
