I had forgotten the 45 RRP instead of 50, but I would still expect the usual 5% or more discount sometime before release day. A couple £ one way or the other isn't going to make a lot of difference in the end. The much more US friendly exchange rate compared to most of 2020/2021 and June 2018 when the original LE released is far more helpful from this end (1.20 now vs nearly 1.45 June 2021 and 2018)
$60 or 70 2 or 3 times a year isn't going to stop me at this point which is what the last 5 seasons have cost. It appears many of the earlier Collections I paid $45USD for but that was virtually all due to the increased postage costs (close to tripled) and Amazon wasn't adding US Tax yet. I ordered my last set from Deff, which arrived in the US nicely packed, but I found out from another order that they don't replace scratched discs. So consider that if you've had issues with scratches.
I've got my pre-order in at Amazon's UK site for a change. The last few sets they've apparently been leaving pre-orders to the US open for the first couple days, then locking pre-orders out if you're not in the UK. If you get one in you should be good. I usually find out a day or two too late but this time I got one in in time. |

I guess the fact that the missing Crusade episodes are presented as telesnaps confirms that's likely to be the procedure for the rest of the non-animated stories.
Can't help but feel like some of the other 60s seasons with more missing stories are gonna feel a bit patchy. |

Looks like this release was initially green-lit back in 2019 alongside S26, S14 and (the also delayed) S17.

I've never had so much of a feeling of anticipation before viewing B&W Doctor Who. Just the thought of it getting the same treatment as the colour stories I'm most familiar with.
It's a real shame this may indicate the end of the animated reconstruction of missing episodes, especially as there were only 2 needing done for this set. I never did like telesnaps, but accepted them as all that was available (and being glad when they were still on the new sets as alternatives for completion's sake). I do understand they are a large undertaking but again, it was only 2 episodes this time around... Zavvi £52.99? Even having ended up with my Red Carpet renewing before I cancelled it, it will still be pricier without p&p unless they reduce it before release. So it looks like HMV, Amazon or Rarewaves ("Sold Out", or maybe just not live yet?) will get my pennies. |

Disappointing that they haven’t got animations for The Crusade. I assume it’s too expensive, but I can’t help wondering if it’s also a little dodgy recreating blacked up actors.
Is there any word on whether they’ve got clearance to use the clip of the Beatles in The Chase? |

Hartnell S3 is the only left with very little with 3 complete stories and 1 more complete by animation and only a small handful of orphaned episodes. We don’t even have telesnaps for many of the missing ones is S3. So any recon is going to have to be rather creative, as per some of the fan ones in the past, or just have the audio alone along with the existing episodes for stuff like Daleks’ Masterplan. We have two spanner’s in the works anyway now. 1, they said a while back stuff like The Crusade was unlikely to be animated because of the complexity due to a large cast and costumes vs the animation budget and 2, BBC America has pulled out of funding more. |

Of course these older sets will be a patchwork since so many episodes are missing, but telesnaps seems like the right choice to me. I actually hope all of the sets include telesnaps instead of animation for the stories that already have animation, for consistency. Including the animated episodes where they are already done id fine too but I hope we get a telesnaps option. Last edited by mar3o; 08-16-2022 at 11:59 PM. |
