You are correct- I didn’t catch them when I watched the trailer on my phone but they are there

Having just watched Season 4 as a mix of telesnaps (The Smugglers, The Highlanders, The Underwater Menace), animation, and any existing episodes, the animations were much more enjoyable to watch than the telesnaps imo. Yeah the styles vary a bit but I had to force myself to stay awake with some of the telesnaps. It might not be 100% accurate but the animations make for a more watchable experience. My only complaint is that the few that have their animations cropped to 4:3 for the B/W versions (due to some eps existing) aren't framed very well. Ironically a few close-ups I wish were actually slightly Pan-and-Scanned!
EDIT: I can muddle through for The Crusade though, especially if it has the linking narration from the CD like the snaps on the animation releases do. Hope that the tweet from Peter Crocker also means that us NA fans (and our Australian friends) can get the uncut Episode 1 of The Chase as well! |

Prefer animations myself, though didn’t mind the original telesnap on ep 3 of Web of Fear.
Just hope there is far more effort & life put into these telesnaps than the ones on the underwater menace. (Which I have yet to be able to sit all the way through) |

Good to see they have started on the black & white years now.
May be a couple years until I get this because I only buy the standard editions now so hopefully season 8 and 24 soon. I'm guessing season 1 will be out end of next year for the 60th. |

In the classic blu-ray Doctor Who thread I confirmed that season 20 will be released next summer. Two weeks ago they filmed a documentary in Amsterdam with the 5th Doctor and his companions. It will be released for the 40th anniversary. I was surprised that nobody commented on it.

All the other official recons released so far have been better than that. It was a bizarre one-off that the management insisted upon for some reason..

I've no issue with mixing surviving complete episodes with animated episodes like the earlier DVD animations, since even though the story switches between them, each individual episode is consistent within itself. The recons (with the exception of Underwater Menace) do use surviving fragments within the telesnaps, and that works because even though you're switching between stills and moving visuals, it's still all showing the original production and actors. |

(Apart from the fact they didn't use the opening and closing moving visuals on the theme music - that was the only bizarre decision imo). I loved the fact that they ONLY used the telesnaps and only at exactly the right places where they were snapped from. That's what I want from a telesnap recon in an ideal world. I appreciate it's not an ideal world. Call me weird again. |

You're very weird.
![]() I think you're the only person who's every admitted to liking that UM recon, apart from the BBC person who mandated it be done like that. I wouldn't worry about The Lion looking too pristine, it's from the horse's mouth it's never going to look great. What niggled me about previous attempts to restore it was the softening effect on genuine picture detail around it to try and make it less noticeable - the artefacts left were just as distracting as a raw scratch so it was a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. So I'm hoping now it can be lessened without so many artefacts. Last edited by oddbox83; 08-17-2022 at 06:54 PM. |

Just curious. If there aren't then it's perfectly easy to just say "no, nothing yet" Last edited by StuPod; 08-17-2022 at 09:08 PM. |

I've heard that they're working on at least Season 21 and 25, and of course 20 will be finally ready by next year as they recorded the Amsterdam extra. Season 9 was rumoured because of something being filmed a while back, but it was debunked as it was for a fan film not the Collection.
