From 88’s Facebook post

Quote:
Our Release of ICEMAN COMETH is nearly ready!
Extras announced soon but we can confirm the versions and artwork.
The release will feature:
Original Hong Kong Version (115 minute) with Cantonese Original Mono, Classic English dub and 5.1 New English Dub

The FULLY UNCUT (127 mins) Extended Taiwanese Version (Mandarin Export Cut) with Mandarin mono, Hybrid Cantonese / Mandarin track and English / Mandarin hybrid track
As per Old Pang Yau -

Quote:

Yes, that runtime is not a typo, via @88_Films's Facebook :

"The FULLY UNCUT (127 mins) Extended Taiwanese Version (Mandarin Export Cut) with Mandarin mono, Hybrid Cantonese / Mandarin track and English / Mandarin hybrid track"

(HK version included as well, of course, lol)

Fantastic to see a hybrid English dub on the longer cut too.

Looking good. I'll be getting the Vinegar Syndrome release in this month's subscription box but, as with Righting Wrongs, I'll be buying this 88 films release, too. Greatly prefer 88 Films' artwork for this, and the 127 minute cut of the film has me incredibly curious.

Keep 'em coming!

I've not seen this for a long time but as a teen I thoroughly enjoyed watching this on the big screen in London. I think it was a triple billing of The Iceman Cometh, Once Upon a Time in China and one other, which escapes my memory!

88 Films' Extended Taiwanese Version is 5 min longer than VS's Mandarin Export Cut.

So, 88 was given that same 122 min cut, and we thought "oh, this but be the Taiwanese cut on the old Taiwanese VHS"... except footage was still missing. So I compiled all of the missing shots using that VHS rip, 88 sent it to FS to see if they could find those shots, and lo and behold they did. So FS scanned them and 88 cleaned them up, and they're dropped seamlessly into the main restoration.

Damn that's genuinely incredible, it's crazy how FS missed them in the first place but amazing that you managed to sort it and they got the new shots scanned and sent over. After years of inactivity over here, FS must be happy with all the interest from the UK via Eureka and 88 Films (and the US now).

You know what I'd love to see? A Crowdfunded BR produced of how you guys collaborate for many of these titles and pull it out of the bag every - single - time! All of this stuff fascinates me, helping to enrich the experience of the release and it would a damn shame to lose such behind the scenes details that us consumers never see and are only fortunate to read on such forums like this

Thank you. We'd been discussing the difference in runtime and wondering what it could be. Now we know. Looking forward to owning this and watching it, as with so many other HK films, for the first time.

I know nothing about this movie, but the trailer looks amazing without one shred of English subtitles. VS should have put this out in 4K.

I've come to learn that with Fortune Star it can be very "YMMV" as to what footage we can get for what film, how many cuts we can get for each, etc. I'm honestly curious as to what FS was using as a "base" to construct the 122 minute version though.

I wish we actually looked that organized on camera, but it's really a bunch of people spread over parts of the US, UK, and of course Hong Kong... a lot of emails and WeTransfers/DropBoxes from "home offices", lol.

But it shows that FS are 1. willing to look for these materials and hand them out (which is really great to begin with) and 2. a proof that the archives of HK studios hold much more materials in much better quality than we were told in the past (which is a great relief because many of these extended and alternate cuts were considered lost forever or only still existing in the form of old VHS tapes, laserdiscs and crappy DVDs).

Maybe if 88 Films were willing to re-release THE PROTECTOR, FS might even be able to find the original materials for the Jackie-Chan-version.
