I wonder if this will have both versions of Nasty? The extended version that was on the VHS release wasn't on the DVD I have.

I watched this when it was originally broadcast and about a week before episode 1,there was a 2 minute trailer with Rik telling the kids to watch,I hope that's on this set.

It's the fullest, longest surviving master-quality version of every episode. The 2007 box set (which I worked on) restored all but one of the omissions from previous DVDs and this goes further still I believe.

The Young Ones was one of the first BBC series to have most of its scenes shot "on location" using videotape rather than film. There were only two exceptions that were filmed. In episode #11, "Time", the spoof of the U.S. series, "Dallas" was filmed and in episode #12, "Summer Holiday", the red bus was filmed. Most other BBC series would continue using film on location until late in the 1980s!

Also the back cover does list one other thing not mentioned in the lead-in to this post or the blurb on the news feed:

This content was originally broadcast in 1982 & 1984 and reflects the language and attitudes of the time

So perhaps it will be all original unedited versions?

I hope so. The current versions provided by the BBC on iPlayer as part of their anniversary campaign are cut by up to 5 mins bar one episode.

My BBC holy grail would be the release (in some format other than VHS!) of Harry Enfields Televison Programme and Harry Enfield & Chums TV shows.

that true, but I was a colombian guy living in spain in the 80s and not just me, but plenty of teenagers in spain enjoyed this show very much.

not sure hows aged that particular style, bit of an anarchist sense of humor, but Ill certainly be checking it out.

It doesn’t even need to be HD. VT freshly remastered for BD can still look better than the process or making DVD masters during the 2000s, take up less space and produce new extras.

The Rik and Ade FB page just confirmed everything is on there including the Cop "sorry John" dialogue. If that's in there, surely everything is in there.

OH for sure - I'm not British myself, and I love the show. But watching it in the 80s for the first time is a bit different to watching it in 2022 for the first time, was more my point.

I'm sure there's an episode where Rik sings Ashes to Ashes by David Bowie. I asked my mum to get me a David Bowie record (Changes the greatest hits one) because of that and it basically defined my musical taste to this day.

Thankfully I got to see Bowie live in Glasgow shortly before he died.

The back of the packaging says it has them, so I would take that as a yes.

Given it is a BBC release they are required to include English subtitles as part of the accessibility commitments.

Can be hit and miss though when BBC content licenced to other companies in the UK.

My overwhelming memory from when I watched the DVDs is I wish there were more than 12 episodes. But I also understand wanting to maintain the quality of the series and wanting to move onto other projects like Bottom. Fawlty Towers had the same thing of being over quite quickly but still remembered all these decades later.
