Some great gags, and the energy form the cast was amazing. The milkmen episode was simply genius. Iím hoping we will see a remaster soon.
Its maybe the best thing Ade and Rik ever did. But not many people seem to know about it for some reason! The media hated it at the time - probably because it had a go at them big time for one reason. Still quote it to this day.

Yeah that's a good litmus test! And to anyone curious, that scene won't be repeated here by me because I don't want to get perma-banned. Suffice it to say that sensitive types should not watch...

I watched them all yet again last year - its been a favourite of mine since I was a kid and our parents were cool enough to let us watch it.

The only weak spot in the whole thing is that last episode - Summer Holiday. It does feel like they've run out of ideas by that point and it feels rather odd and flat. But what a run of episodes up to then. Comedy genius!

To each their own - I've always found Summer Holiday pretty darn hilarious.

A bit more indepth detail found on British comedy guides website.

All surviving original film elements from the series have been newly scanned at HD resolution, whilst videotape segments have been thoroughly upscaled and professionally cleaned for the all-new remaster, with their original interlacing intact.

Excitingly, the set will also chart the very earliest days of alternative comedy on television, including the first ever release of comedy showcase Boom Boom... Out Go The Lights, which ran for two specials, aired in 1980 and 1981, respectively.

Complete and uncut, the programmes feature the likes of Rik Mayall, Alexei Sayle, Nigel Planer and Keith Allen, and come with new introductions from producer Paul Jackson. Clips from original studio rushes for the second programme, including the stars rehearsing on set, will also feature.

An extensive array of deleted scenes that were filmed on location have also been recovered, and out-takes such as the initial failed explosion of the double-decker bus as seen in the final episode, Summer Holiday.

Other extras on the set include Rik Mayall's contributions to the 1981 charity comedy special Fundamental Frolics, further rarities collated and introduced by producer, archivist and BBC radio host Richard Latto, and three featurettes released on previous DVD releases of The Young Ones.

Released on 28th November, the set also includes the previously released commentaries on the very first and very last episodes with producer Paul Jackson and director Geoff Posner, as well as all-new commentary tracks for the other ten programmes, featuring contributions from co-stars Sayle and Planer, co-writer Lise Mayer; Jackson, director Ed Bye; guest star Suggs; and editor Ed Wooden, who provides fascinating insights into how the fast-paced series was produced.

not to go too much OT but Id like to know if manuel was censored in the BD release. IIRC there was some talk regarding censoring the "war" episode and manuel's jokes.

incidentally I only discovered manuel was a a spaniard and not a mexican a few years after leaving barcelona for the UK. in catalunya he was always mentioned as a mexican, given he was originally from barcelona, and if you know catalans, they're extremely protective of their own:

If annything was censored then it wopuld more likely be the Major with the episode where he says the n word.

Commentary from Alexei Sayle and Nigel Planer sounds like a solid win to me! I'm not expecting anything amazing from the picture, but these extras make the upgrade well worth it.

No reason for a VT show to be slowed down to 1080p. By all accounts the classic Doctor Who sets that are converted to 1080i60 for the US releases look very good.

I'm on the fence with that release, the VT sections don't look any better than the remastered DVD set and has had DNR applied, outdoor filmed sections do look better though. It is fully uncut, including the racist Major.

I think they just interpolate the 50i into 60i, no speed up or slow down or whatever. Same running time, same audio pitch. I've got a DVD set of Bottom from the US, 480i60, and it's fine.

In all honesty I rather enjoyed the BDs. Yes, they didn't need to go as heavy on the DNR for the VT stuff as they did, but I can live with it and the film sections look excellent (mostly, as some is upscaled).
