Although a large portion of all Blu-ray movies are region free (when this is written about two-thirds of all Blu-ray movies are region free) below is a map of the official regions.
Region A: America, Japan, Korea, South East Asia Region B: Greenland, Europa, Africa, Middle East, Australia, New Zealand Region C: China, India, Russia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Central, and South Asia. ![]() Last edited by Iceman; 09-03-2008 at 06:34 PM. |

Sadly all US Fox Titles (which have some really neat US exclusives) are all Region Coded. They make up a large portion of the third that's not region free.
Luckily all Companies that changed sides from HD-DVD kept their Region free ways. |

I find it irritating when people act like certain import BDs are region-free and then don't specify that the extras are all coded to that region's SD format. People should differentiate in their "... is Region-free!" tidbits

Never liked people telling me how and when and what I do with my legally bought material. Can you imagine buying a pair of jeans in a foreign country, getting home and not being allowed to wear them because they are 'foreign'?
I think multiregion DVD happened very quickly (matter of weeks of 1997's first few UK DVDs) but Bluray has stronger technology which has the hackers busy and of course they cracked the security very quickly (although it's ongoing due to 'upgrades' of Bluray). It's a shame because I'm very happy supporting the filmmakers and distributors so I'll have to work around their stupidity. AnyDVD does that very easily of course. I only want region free enjoyment but if the studios can't understand that then people will want much more for less. Or nothing. |

I know extra features in SD included on a separate DVD are region coded for the DVD region, but are SD extra features included the blu-ray disc region coded? I didn't think they were, just usually in PAL SD video format, which of course is not playable on most North American BD players and TVs. I watch all my import BDs on an LG BH200 player set to BD Region B and PAL enabled, but I left the DVD region to Region 1 as I don't have import DVDs - and I've never encountered sny problems watching extra features in SD included on the blu-ray disc, such as JVCD UK.

This really annoys me, I prefer buying all my bluray titles from amazon because they are so much cheaper than in Australia, also I like the us cases. I really don't like having to enter codes every time I want to change discs.
Any news on any multi region bluray players that can change regions automatically without requiring a hardwired switch or entering codes every time you want to swith them. Some region locked titles I have so far include twighlight, boondock saints, donnie darko. Theres a shitload more titles I have cancelled after finding out they were region locked. I've been considering selling the few Australian titles I have and buying an american ps3 or bluray player as 100% of my blu purchases are now done with amazon.com anyway. Would I have any issues going this route besides the obvious warranty issues? That being said, if there are automatic multi region blu players/mods just around the corner I wouldn't bother. I only have three blu imports. The Neverending Story, Paranoid Park and Son Of Rambow. The Neverending Story has no extra features so it is just fine. The other two are U.K. imports and the bonus features are in their standard PAL format which means they are not accessable on my player. But that's something I can deal with as I rarely watch extras more than a couple of times.

Can someone direct to a good resource for setting up/tweaking my multi-region player and TV? I don't have any import Blus yet, and would like to set expectations correctly before I start buying them.
My issue is with PAL DVDs. The disc plays, but every now and again there's that annoying "stutter" where the image plays at a different speed. My TV does not accept PAL directly - if it did would I get any better playback? or is this inherent in PAL conversion? But more importantly, does this type of effect continue in the Bluray world? It seems a waste of time and money to import if the playback is impaired this way. Thanks for any and all advice. |

Supposing I order a BD, say, Star Trek or whatever from the US - then the movie will play but the extras will not...!? |
