Whew. Cheers for the all the submissions. Updated.

Some have been left off though, as either the majority of the film was based overseas (filmed overseas rather than faking it), or the director wasn't born in the country.

So, LordCrumb, you are starting the 4k thing for your collection? What no 'King Kong' on your 4k wishlist? Given my age, I don't see going 4k until my relatively new 60" goes out on me.

Classic films are a must first matey. I'll probably grab King Kong if it comes out in NZ just for the special features.

That would exclude anything directed by Tim Burstall and John Duigan (born in the UK) and Paul Cox and Rolf de Heer (born in the Netherlands). As far as I know they are or were Australian citizens.

I'll amend my double post to add the following three titles, which I own on Australian Blu-rays:

The Railway Man
Sleeping Beauty
Strangerland

Julia Leigh and Jonathan Teplitzky were both born in Sydney. I can't see a birthplace for Kim Farrant but as far as I'm aware she's Australian and Strangerland is an Australian-made film.

And I second Aunt Peg's wish list!

King Kong 4k is scheduled for a 12 July release in NZ & AU. Mighty Ape already lists it. No indication about extras yet, but it will be a set with one 4k BD, one DVD and UV.

It's been reported here that it includes the bonus features from The Ultimate Edition release

Funny you mention The Piano. I just ordered the re-released German copy the other day lol. There is a local 'Remastered' version available, but i've never seen it for sale in NZ.. only AU.

I'm leaning towards either UK or German. dvdcompare says they get the most extras. (Although they don't have all the specs for every release.) I'm a little concerned about subtitles though. Don't remember the movie well enough to recall if there were any subtitled Māori bits in it. If there are then I wouldn't want to get a version without subs, which could be an issue on the German discs.

edit- looks like there's a Korean version in the mix too. Which has English subtitles. Haven't found any word on extras yet though.
I didn't even think about Maori dialog.. I haven't seen the film in decades and honestly don't remember it... damn.

The "Remastered" local version of The Piano is an AVC 24.000Hz encoded transfer with DTS-HD Master 5.1 audio and commentary with Jane Campion and a 15 minute "Inside the Piano" featurette. There is subtitles for the hearing impaired, the Māori dialogue is subtitled. The initial local release was 1080i/50.

Roeg is not Australian. I had it listed previously until I was informed about him.
In that case you may want to remove Wake in Fright as the director Ted Kotcheff is Canadian and lead actors Gary Bond & Donald Pleasence are English. Myself, I don't count Wake in Fright or Walkabout as Australian.

You should also add The Eye of the Storm (2011) directed by Fred Schepisi.

Here is my New Zealand on Blu-ray Collection so far:
(Not pictured, the LOTR/HOB sets)

I went ahead and canceled my order for the German release of 'The Piano'. Will have to look around for the next best one.

It's ok I guess.. If I had a DVD to compare it to i'd be able to be more specific.. Surely it must look better than it lol

It's 1080i 25fps.
