For what it’s worth I can tell you it will be the Director’s Cut with the scene with the Scientists, that wasn’t in the film when released in the 70’s

Even if the films were made here, some of them just don't justify the expense of a Blu-Ray release, especially if an HD transfer needs to be created from scratch. You'd be amazed how few NZ films have Blu-Ray releases as well.

I would suggest that there have been some 70 NZ titles that have found their way to Blu-ray. However, the problem is what do you call a New Zealand title. What of projects that were made in NZ, but all the money to make it came from non-NZ sources? What of projects that were not made, or mostly not made in New Zealand, but all or most of the production money came from NZ sources? Examples: Other than his first three films, are any of the other Peter Jackson projects NZ films. Is The Piano a New Zealand film? Is The Vintner's Luck? Is Race for the Yankee Zephyr? Is Battletruck? Many, if not most films are now co-productions - obtaining their financing from multiple sources in multiple countries. It is not as clear-cut as it was 50 years ago.

Heavenly Creatures got a Blu-ray release in the States a number of years ago, but is yet to receive one in Australia where it was warmly received.

Some newer NZ titles to consider - 'Hibiscus & Ruthless' and 'Take Home Pay'. Additionally, who thinks 'Mega Time Squad', 'Mortal Engines' and 'Jojo Rabbit' should be added as NZ co-productions?;

Creating masters is one thing, but there seems to be a general reluctance to even license existing masters from overseas companies. Maybe the government should channel some arts money into getting some of the more important titles released, instead of throwing millions at overseas productions that end up flopping and becoming national embarrassments.

Still waiting for a Blu ray release of the brilliant Shame (1988) by Steve Jodrell.

And the hard work is already done, NFSA did a 2K restoration for MIFF only a couple of years ago. C'mon Umbrella, you had it on DVD, bring the new NFSA transfer to Blu!!

I second that. Bliss (1985) was also recently restored and remains missing in action on Blu Ray. It seems like there is little appetite to release older Australian films.

Most current Australian films seem to be DVD/digital only, and some aren't released on disc at all!

Jirga, which had a limited theatrical release in late 2018 has no local retail release whatsoever, however, there is a U.S. Blu-ray.

Referring back to your original posting - Perhaps you might want to add the following:
Bad Taste, Human Traces, Daffodils, Take Home Pay, The Irrefutable Truth About Demons, Killer Sofa and Mega Time Squad. I assume that you will not include 6 Days and Jojo Rabbit for the same reason you have not included The World's Fastest Indian and Battletruck.

Please delete, sorry wrong thread

For those unaware,

Lord Summerisle's line: "Here comes the chopper to chop off your head," as the swordsman make the symbol of the sun during the scene at the stones near the end of the film.

Is missing from the new HD/SD hybrid of the Director's cut, but it is still present on th SD version on the extras disc. A little disappointing to say the least.

Although this concerns a North American release, it is a AU/NZ title. 'Jack Be Nimble' is scheduled for a limited edition Blu-ray release on 26 July. It is a 4k restoration and has a number of extras. I do not know what other territory releases are scheduled. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Jack-...lu-ray/319470/

Default Jack Be Nimble

I received my ordered copy and it is an all-regions disc. I have uploaded new info on the BD at my site, including some suggestions as to where to purchase. https://www.nzvideos.org/jack.html

I ordered Jack Be Nimble from a seller on ebay. I was going to order directly through the distributor but they were sold out. I was shocked, did think it would sell out so quick. Good to see it is far more well known than I thought.

You'd think with him being the big hot property these days, they'd take the opportunity to release a version with an enormous banner declaring "DIRECTED BY TAIKA WAITITI!!!!!" on the cover

Exactly, which makes me think there are rights issues. Miramax released it theatrically in the US and it’s been on Paramount + here so it may have been included in their share of the catalog.
