I also haven't watched The Final Countdown in 3D so can't comment on the quality of the conversion, but I'd imagine it's an autoconversion or a primitive early conversion.

Sorry I didn't answer as I have no idea.
I thought maybe the13thman knew since he looked like a zen master in the previous reply and it's hard to find reviews on it, the few that do exist are mixed. I guess I'll find out.

Default 'Phantasia Box 3D', German: Anyone know anything about this one?

Anyone have any ideas regarding 'Phantasia Box' German 3D release, has 2 movies 'The Chronicles of Phantasia', & 'Snow Queen of Schneekonigin', ordered as cheap & looked interesting.

Sorry my friend, but both, this is a prime example of GERMAN AUTOCONVERSIONS, that can be done by your TV.

God, I'd hope an autoconversion would do a better job than a TV (which does NOTHING but put the bottom closer to you than the top like those old B&W "color strips" put green on the bottom and blue on the top as if all scenes were grass and sky....

AutoConversions do nothing that your 2d to 3d function can do, as dismal as
that sounds.

The Final Countdown 3D from Germany arrived today.

I haven't watched it yet to see what the 3D looks like (took a 2D preview on the computer, which looked pretty good at a glance).

It says it has a 5.1 English soundtrack and a 2D version, but neither is correct. The 3D version has a DTS-HD Master 7.1 soundtrack with it (like the more pricey 2D release by another company) and instead of a 2D separate version (you can convert the 3D to 2D or watch it in 2D through the TV/projector mode) it includes an unadvertised second movie! It's PROOF from 1991 with Hugo Weaving and Russell Crowe (Both Australian
actors before either was really famous world-wide). It only has stereo, but hey, if they want to give me another free movie with one of my favorite actors...hey, why not? Now it's an even better deal! 7.1 sound on The Final Coundown and a Hugo Weaving/Russell Crowe movie for free.

Well, the 3D was pretty crappy in The Final Countdown from Germany. It didn't remind me of my projector's 3D conversion because that actually has some depth to it. This looked more like some mild variation, not quite "flat" in all the scenes, but very few had any real depth (started out OK with the jet taking off looked pretty good, but seemed vague at best from there).

OTOH, it did have the 7.1 soundtrack and the picture, while varied, actually looked pretty good most of the time (they clearly used some stock footage from WWII and probably some military stock footage as well, which varied greatly in quality). But after I converted to 2D, I'd say it certainly made a nice 2K/2D 7.1 transfer for almost half the Blue Underground version (which I haven't seen to compare).

In other words, if you don't already have the Blue Underground version and like the movie, it seemed like a pretty good deal to get a decent version with a 7.1 soundtrack (which didn't go crazy with surround, but was decent) for a pretty low price (I think I paid about $10 US and it got here in under a week via DHL.)

Oh yeah, it also comes with another movie (Proof from 1991) for free (don't know why it's there and I haven't watched it yet, but it got pretty good ratings from Roger Ebert back in the day) and has Hugo Weaving and Russell Crowe in it.

That's a 2D release with 3D lenticular slip. It's not a 3D blu-ray.

Released as a 2D IMAX film, there was also a 3D version (2D conversion with a few issues, but overall very recommendable, IMHO).

To my knowledge the 3D version was only released on 3D Blu-ray in Germany with both German and original English version, IIRC unfortunately locked in region Code B.

Still available from Amazon Germany:https://www.amazon.de/Fighter-Pilot-...s%2C590&sr=8-4

And another one, only available on DVD according to Amazon.com, but available as a 3D Blu-ray in Germany, too:

Cathedrals of Culture

Germany Request intel on these German releases-- y or n on autoconversion

Hi guys,

Any of you guys knowledgeable of the following German releases:

Feu- Le Crazy Horse
Flirting with Flamenco
Gingerclown
Hidden
Shadowguard
Vikingdom

The majority appear to have been released originally in the English speaking countries and all appear to at least have English subtitles.... Anyways, my main concern before I bite the bullet is to ensure none of the are auto-conversions. And feel free to chime in if there are other titles released in Europe/Germany that have an English track or English subtitles that are worth the purchase.

Thanks,
Jason

Gingerclown - terrible movie with virtually flat native 3-D. Only a few scenes show any depth. Regret getting this one.

Hidden - pretty good native 3-D with a few pop-outs. Not a bad horror movie but does get a little silly towards the end. Worth a look tho.

Vikingdom - watched this on demand and turned it off after about 10 to 15 minutes. Movie was too cheesy for my tastes. There was decent depth but it's not a polished conversion with lots of warping around everything.

Haven't seen the others.

Hi BR,

Actually, I didn't find Vikingdom all that bad.

Nothing wrong with that Joe. It just didn't work for me. To each their own, right.
