Paramount Gemini Man 3D (2019)

Science Fition movie with Will Smith from director Ang Lee.

The movie was shot native in 4K 3D with 60 fps.

https://www.ibc.org/production/ang-l...a/3505.article

But sadly itīs from Paramount - so no 3D Blu-Ray

120 FPS actually.

And it releases in theaters on Oct 11. Hopefully more theaters play a 4K HFR 3D version than Billy Lynn did as it looks very unique and impressive and is something which canít fully be replicated at home (even if it somehow got a 3D Blu release, and I also watched the 3D Blu of Billy Lynn and it got a lot of the effect across, but certainly not all).

Still early, so tough to find any details about it, but it sounds interesting:

"Henry Brogen, an aging assassin seeking to exit his career finds himself going against a younger clone of himself, who can predict his every move.
Cast

Will Smith as Henry Brogen
Clive Owen as Clay Varris
Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Danny
Benedict Wong as Baron
Linda Emond as Lassiter
Theodora Miranne as Kitty"

Dimitri Portelli is the cinematographer so we’re in for a treat imo.

This is all a pre-cursor to Ang Lee’s real desire - for the tech to catchup with his plans for The Thriller in Manila.

The theme reminds me of Looper, where Bruce Willis meets his former self, also an assassin of some kind. But I imagine this will hopefully be more action packed and a faster pace compared to Rian Johnson's Looper.

The only "Preview" of Gemini Man that I found is cell phone footage of Will Smith commenting about the mosquitoes where the movie is filming, as he wears a protective net.

Comically, this behind the scenes footage is listed as a Gemini Man Teaser Trailer on youtube.

So it's 60 fps for the 3D version. Wasn't Billy Lynn shown in 120 fps in 3D?

It was, I saw it in the full 4K, 3D, 120 FPS projection. But it was extremely limited in the number of theaters which could play that format, they all needed custom equipment and it was just 2 theaters in the US (and they got the film a week before its wide release) and like 5 or 6 overseas.

Since I doubt there was a huge expansion in available theaters, Iím guessing the 4K, 3D, 120FPS version will still be very limited, but rather than just do 2D 24FPS for most other theaters like Sony did with Billy Lynn, Paramount is being proactive and looking at 2D 120 and 3D 60 formats which I hear are much easier to do technically (I believe all IMAX laser sites can do this for instance).

I'm glad Lee is persevering with HFR and 3D despite the frosty reception Billy Lynn received. This is a world-class director sharing his vision for the future of cinema. Let audiences decide for themselves whether they like the new format and what he's doing with it. A handful of sniffy critics should not be choosing for us. I would have loved to see the 3D, 120 fps in a theatre, but the most we got in the UK was 2D, 24 fps.

I'll take 60 fps for Gemini Man if that's all cinemas can manage. As long as it's HFR and 3D - the director's vision - I'm there opening day.

Yes. Hopefully Ang Lee will strive for stronger 3D throughout his new, native 3D films.

The Hobbit looked like a stage play via HFR 3D to me as reality driven, taking me out of the fantasy of belief, which was affective in 24fps 3D.

lol I'm aware of some people's (a lot of people's) resistance to high frame rates. Maybe it's a generational thing. Personally I thought it just added to the immersion, motion blur tends to make a lot of fast paced action scenes quite messy to follow.

I mean, perhaps some of the Bourne movies might have acceptable action scenes in HFR

I enjoy a stage play via HFR as much as I enjoy a 24fps movie. Each production has its' unique entertainment quality.
