Default Cordless headset question

High 5 All,

My Blue tooth headset of close to 2 years old now fails to hold a charge.
What do people normally do when this happens, given that many BT headsets can cost serious money.

I've looked at simply replacing the battery, yes in numbers terms a good idea, but all of the wires near the battery are very short and thin.

Thanks
Stratford

This is the destiny of all bluetooth designs. The only thing you can do is try to turn them in for repair.

G' day LiamBlack,

I've all ready come across that, even when the battery can be got for about an hour of legal min the total repair cost relative to a complete new headset is a joke.

have a good one

May I suggest your new wireless headset be one with 2 AAA re-chargeable batteries.

Iím still on the pair that came with my headset I bought 4 years ago & it still holds a 12 hour charge. If these batteries die, I can simply take them out for a new pair.

I only recommend Sennheiser headsets.

High 5 Derb,

This is the sort of thing that floats my boat.
Which headset do you have, as I understand it headsets have a microphone?
Do their more recent headsets use common batteries like you describe too?

Thanks

May have to research some newer models.

I use the 185 HDR model.

Quick question but what is this headset gonna be used as primary?

Listening to home theatre movies? (Blu-rayís etc.)
Listening to games via a home theatre? (PlayStation, Xbox etc.)
Listening from phone or tablet? (Apple, Samsung etc.)

If you wanna listen to sources from your TV, does the TV have an optical/toslink connection at the back?

High 5 Derb,

To answer your question,
Listening to home theatre movies? (Blu-rayís etc.)
but also Skype calling, though I learn here that BT is the problem area

K thanks.

So you need one that is wireless & has a mic.

Your Tv might have optical out for soundbars or headphones. Also check your av receiver if you have one. You should have a headphone jack on the front of that.

Iíll dig into some wireless mic headphones later. Itís very possible some maybe Bluetooth only. Iíll try & skip those.

Derb I'm not a fan of corded headsets. The video that I just gave you a link to leads me to believe that BT 5 would need investigating

I did some searching around. Specifically for Skype wireless headsets. There are some out there that are of headset form factor but all appear to use BT. I than checked out a bunch of wireless mobile headsets. They all seem to use BT. I then checked out some gaming ones.

The one in that video you linked is BT & is a gaming headset.

For pure audio quality listening, the only option is RF wireless, no mic.
For best Skype quality, Sennheiser makes a bunch but all are BT with solid lithium battery form.

I checked out current BT headsets on the market to see how to change the lithium battery out for a new one. It is unfortunately more than a simple plug & play solution so you have to rely on the headset manufacturer to deliver a quality product. There are many brands out there, & looking for a good one with research will make you lost.

I have tried a crap ton of different model headsets from various manufacturers over a 20 year period & none (literally) have beaten Sennheiser. Unfortunately, if you want to take a pair, you will have to either buy 2 headsets or buy 1 headset that is BT & wireless.

The Senns I checked out range from $2-250 US with,
Active Noise Cancelling
Bluetooth
Wireless

I didnít go through all the gaming headsets yet but most wireless ones have a USB dongle & are BT. Iíll continue to look for good ones in the ďgamingĒ area & tell you what I find later.

Here is what I found with mic & BT that isnít crap. lol,

My friend has the SteelSeries Arctic 9x for his XBOX One X and he says its the best gaming headset he has used. Quite pricing at $199.99 but I suspect we will see a sale or price drop around the holidays. But there will be other options in 2020 more than likely from other companies.

If you aren't in a big hurry you may want to wait, Black Friday is fast approaching and it would not surprise me if the Arctic 9x went on sale or at least saw a price drop. Nothing confirmed but it is possible.
