Wow...I still have a couple of laserdiscs I bought new(in 1995)and have never opened. Still shrink wrapped with all the stickers and Suncoast price tag.

I will get some pics posted very soon.

So I think I may have screwed something up on my CLD-97... I moved it to another cabinet and didn't realize that the back of the player was sitting on the power cord. When I played a disc, it was freaking out and jumping all over the place.

Took we a while to figure out what was wrong, and now when I play some discs, i seem to be getting more artifacts. Other discs seem to be fine. Is it my imagination, or did I screw up the alignment or something else?

I think you would really have to throw the player around to potentially screw something up. Maybe try plugging it into a different outlet/ power strip. Check the power cord for any exposed wiring.

The initial problem of image all over the place was definitely from sitting on the power cable. As soon, as I pulled out the cable and set the machine down flat, it played fine. Is it possible that the lens was actually HITTING the laserdisc since the machine was tilted?

The additional artifacts MAY be a result from exposed wiring, but it isn't present on all discs. I'll experiment more after work today.

Only have one player that still 'works' but it could use a tune up such as alignment. Not sure if it's from moving the player around a lot or going years at a time without use and the moving parts have worn over time. My best player (CLD-97) won't even open since the disc tray is jammed and my first backup player is completely dented inward after storing books and other junk in the room on top of the player for a few years. Wish I had a clue how to repair these on my own since I already wasted diagnostic fees locally just for them to basically say "we don't know how to repair these."

Try getting some advice for your player from Kurtis Bahr.

kbahr@comcast.net

It doesn't hurt e-mailing him to see what he thinks. He's nearly the only person left in the U.S. who repairs players these days.

There's one other guy in Michigan. I think his name is Duane Cummins. He goes by "grasshopper" on LDDB.

After those two, I think it's over for LD -- unless you know someone else.

Great reply. Just watched BR again with my grandson....I don't think he quite got it.

Although he enjoyed Joanna Cassidy's brief deshabille...
