I'm quite puzzled too. How is this not earning a billion? My best guess is that animated movies don't have the same draw (lack of celebrity power?) unless you're Disney.

Saw this again yesterday, still love it. People who aren't seeing this in theaters are missing out. I might try to see it a 3rd time before it leaves.

Since A Dog's Way Home came out, that trailer has been replaced with MIB: International, at least at the theater I went to. Maybe they could add the Far From Home trailer if that comes out on Tuesday like it's rumored to.

Sony Pictures Animation just isn't that high earning of a studio.

Their Top 3 highest grossing animated movies are the Hotel Transylvania franchise.

Even more baffling is Universal's animated Grinch is performing far better than Spider-Verse.

Well the doesn't surprise me. Illumination is a powerhouse and the Grinch is a beloved property.

A billion? That's a lofty goal. I'd rather see it earn 500 million, which would be much more realistic but this is closer to hitting 150 million by mid week. Hopefully it hits 175 million by the time it leaves theaters. I doubt it, though.

This might even make more than Mary Poppins. Who would've thought?

IME a lot of people have written this off as "it's just a cartoon" like it's not a "real new spider-man movie"

bonkers

I liked it enough. The shared universe angle was fun, if not really deeply explored, and it flowed well enough.

But, it was also really formulaic at the end of the day. The whole "you just have to take that leap..." transformation was a little too easy, a little too trite. But, it felt like a filler comic book, in that sense, so I gave it a pass.

What didn't feel like a comic book was the film's animation style. It didn't feel 3-D or like comic book panels brought to life (any more so than traditional animation): It felt like a blurred mess at times. Distracting and disappointing. If the filmmakers wanted to replicate the look of a comic book with flawed printing, then they should have just given us actual comic books to read...and not tried to force one medium to mimic another to the point where it detracts from the viewing experience.

I also thought it weird that they just put random lines on the characters' faces to denote age-lines/wrinkles. I get what they were going for, but it wasn't working. It just looked like characters walking around with random lines on their faces, like some prankster took a Sharpie to them. *LOL*

After all the in jokes about "yet another Spiderman origin", by the end the movie it was just another Spiderman origin movie...again. Loved the way it looks, thought they didnt do much with the multiverse angle, Miles was cool, but another from scratch high school spider bite hero training "believe in yourself" slog? Good thing flabby Spiderman stole the show. The movie was smart, great ideas, LOVED the Siencewicz Kingpin, but somehow with all that creativity and street art, the story boiled down to the same spidey story... Still the best animated of the year however
