In the case of VW, the Japanese audio was remastered from the original source at 24-bit/48khz for the upcoming release, which is obviously higher than the quality of the Murican dub from the 90's and the 16-bit/48khz PCM used on the Discotek release. I don't know how much space the old dub would have taken up, but it's likely that Sentai (or the content owner) felt it wasn't up to par or Sentai simply didn't have access to a DAT copy of the dub, via the content owner, who may have lent it to someone else and never got it back or simply misplaced it.

But it’s how many English-speaking fans remember this film, and this release will mostly be purchased by those nostalgic for the film. I don’t think a modern anime-watching audience would be too interested in this release. I don’t see why they couldn’t just go all out with the Japanese audio, but use the dub audio from Discotek’s Blu-ray. It really wouldn’t take up much space.

Also, the original dub was technically British.

Discotek released Nils Holgersson on SD-BD. So, is Discotek's BD better than the R2JP DVDs?

I never expected this from Discotek considering it's a show that the English market never heard of, but most of the West has.

Nils is a bit of a weird pickup, but it makes sense if it's a stepping stone to other shows. They got it from Studio100, who own the international rights to a catalogue of older anime titles, including Maya the Bee and a few World Masterpiece Theatre entries (most notably, Anne of Green Gables and Heidi).

If they release Maya, I wonder how they'll do it. There are two dubs. The one produced by Saban is the one most well known in North America, but Studio100 only seems to distribute a different production done in South Africa.

One of my RS orders over the holidays made it to Detroit where it sat for 3 days, then it wound up in Wisconsin, then back to Detroit, then New York, back to Detroit. It sat in Detroit another 2 days and showed up the next day without any updates

So I watched the Castle of Cagliostro 4k earlier and it's gorgeous. Looks and sounds beautiful. Good hdr. Lots of extras. First time watching the movie and I loved it. Watched the 2000 dub. I'm used to Tony Oliver as Lupin, but Hayter did a great job, wouldn't mind him returning to the role at some point (though Tony is still my favorite Lupin).

I bought it in 2019 from Anime Stop (a store that has since shut down in my city) when they were clearing out thier blu-rays. I already knew it goes for 100$ or so online so when I saw it for 30 discounted to 20 I knew I had to grab it.

It's available from both RightStuf and directly from Discotek via their eBay store. It's not OOP as far as I can see.
