Depending on how close you sit to the Sony, which model Sony it is and how well you can control the light in the room I'd probably be inclined to stick with the Sony if it is a 4K HDR display. If it is just a non-HDR display and you sit further back, like in the 10' range and you can control the light I think front project is is great, hard to argue with an image potentially 4x as large as your current display that will likely look great. If you're a gamer look into the input lag of the BenQ versus your Sony particularly if you play FPS games at any sort of a competitive level.

It's a HDR tv yes and I sit about 13' range from tv atm
I'm not into competitive games much mainly third person uncharted tomb raider resident evils that sort.

Optoma UHD40 (401396) is another one I have my eye on atm I'm stuck now can't make my mind up
https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-203145-401396.aspx

I'm lost about how to compare contrast and stuff

I should also say my HTPC will be doing most of the movie work would that 4k projector playback 1080p blurays if my pc resolution is 2160p?

At the price range you are looking at I wouldn't worry about contrast and stuff, just be happy with size and light output. The UHD40 is a sizeable upgrade over the BenQ but you've got to go up a couple of notches to really bother getting into a debate over contrast and the diminishing returns on projectors when it comes to cost versus performance is outrageous so unless you have a real eye for detail I'd cut your budget off at in that UHD40 range. If you aren't playing "twitch" games either projector will do you just fine, you're gonna love it. Is there room behind you at the 13' viewing distance? You should get a pretty good size screen from that distance or further.

These are all of course my opinions and only opinions. If you can get a chance to see either or both of these projectors in action that is always the best way to handle things, don't take folks word like mine on a forum when your own eyes will tell you best how to spend your money.

Well I received my projector I'm very happy
I just watched Jurassic world blown away

One thing I'm not sure about is the black borders around the top bottom and sides is this normal for all projectors?

Can't find anything in the settings so far

Not quite sure what you're talking about as far as black borders go. Is it happening with the PS4Pro and the blu ray player? What resolution are you sending it?

And are both creating the black border? Is there an AVR in the middle or are these going directly into the projector? What is the native resolution of the projector?

For your PC, you using an nvidia card? Can you check the settings under Dispaly > Adjust Desktop size and position. Try setting that to Do not scale.

4096x2160 is 1.896 aspect ration while 1920x1080 is 1.78, so the projector may be doing some scaling in order to accomdate the lesser resolution. Also check your projector manual and remote for scaling options.

This review seems to have the black bars going all around his signals aswell so I'm assuming that's just the way its made.

Fixed ps4 pro 4K issue I had it in hdmi 1 port but hdmi 2 port is the 4K one lol

Gonna get working on putting this screen onto the ceiling tomorrow then I’m all set to go
