5000:1 contrast is awful. This is going to be a very grey looking projector.
Yeah, it's weird I can find a couple of refrenced that say 50,000:1 then others say 5000:1. I agree 5000:1 sounds so bad I don't know how they can claim "industry leading contrast similar to theater quality"

Check out the "datasheet" section here:

Yeah that fits. It will be 5000:1 native contrast. No iris. That is actually good for a DLP and fits with previous models Darkchip 3. 50,000:1 will be with the Dynamic Iris engaged. Generally a dynamic iris will improve contrast by 10. Depends on the design.

DLP is very weak when it comes to Native contrast. Often 3000:1 to about 5000:1. LCD is about the same.
LCOS that Sony uses is better. Around 12,000:1
D-ILA is king going from about 60,000:1 to 150,000:1. Native not dynamic.
They should not be advertising industry leading contrast.

When calibrating mine the tech got 142,000:1 out of mine. He also had to aim the camera directly into the lens to get a black level reading. He couldn't get one from the screen as it was too dark. If I press hide picture it takes my eyes 8 seconds or so to focus and see the screen. After that I can make out a very slight glow. If I put my hand in the way of the light path I can't see a shadow.

But I'd go for the 4K. Price difference will be minimal as with W8000 you'll have to pay for the lens on top of the projector. Lens is included in price if you buy W11000. Also, check out picture comparison with Sony 4K. BenQ W11000 beats the Sony easily. Amazing Clarity.

There is a lot of conflicting information about the 2550. Articles from November say its a 1080x4 pixel shifter. Now it says its not, guess ill have to wait on reviews to find out for sure. And hopefully hear how it handles 4K HDR60 content.
