I think I may hold off until CEDIA to see what's announced. By then I should be ready. I really want the Sony 285es, but I want to see if there's going to be a replacement for the 5040, because I don't want to spend $5k on the Sony.

$5K is too much.

I think Iíll get the 5040 soon. Watching this 32Ē TV is not fun.

Let me know what you think of the image compared to the 5010 once you get it, I'll be interested in your comparison.

Wife should order it today. Getting 2 pairs of glasses thrown in. Still not happy about the price. But in Taiwan, home electronics are really pricey, just no market.

Guy wife had been dealing with is on vacation, so no projector sent out today.

Also having second thoughts, since I got time.

Any projectors better than 5040 at $2,500?

I would stick with the Epson, they have the lowest crosstalk for 3D, remember - and we're both all about the 3D...

Good point. I am getting Black Panther this week.

The model here....which I believe is same as 5040 is EH-TW8300. Offering a 5 year warranty. Which would be something except 5010 last 5 years and 2.5 months.

Good review/shootout over at ProjectorCentral about the 5040s 4k capability. and indeed they agree its not all about 4K but contrast etc can really make a difference. 5040 has a lot of nice options like Lens shift Lens position memories and the wireless HDMI.

I think it is important to note that besides the price and features it is the only project in the price range that you can update the firmware on without sending it in.

2 pairs of glasses should be in that box on the side.

When a BD loads, movie starts, player turns off, I get a very jarring flash of green or orange. Tried to take a video. Here are screen caps, but hard to see because bright flash is so quick.
Should’ve cropped it. Start at 0:23

Tried Marantz player, PS3, and direct line to projector to make sure it wasn’t the AVR. Always there.

I turned off all the enhancements so I can get a familiar 1080p picture.

I think there is an issue with the pic, too, a judder now and then. Maybe the BD, Cure for Wellness.

My old projector, 5010, had to have very little lcd alignment. This one looks like it might need a bit.

I always thought 1080p was good enough even for my 120 inch screen seated at around 11 feet, and I was skeptical of pixel shifting, but now that I can do a comparison using the 5040ub the difference in resolution is definitely there, I don't know if I would notice a difference from this to true 4k but I doubt it would justify like extra $2500

My impressions coming from a budget Benq W1070:

- If you get closer to the screen, the pixels aren't as well defined as when using the Benq, which I attribute is because of the difference in technology, pixels in single chip DLP looks perfectly defined and with no border
- I don't see a huge difference in 24p motion, but I think again DLP had a slight advantage from what I remember
- Epson is quite brighter than the Benq
- Epson uniformity is miles better than the Benq which always had one side of the screen much dimmer than the other
- Epson contrast is better even when the image is brighter, the problem in my dark room is that the image is too bright so forcing the iris to pass less light is crucial and also has the advantage of even darker black level
- As mentioned before, when using 4K sources the resolution difference is noticeable compared to 1080p
- WCG, HDR (these are quite challenging to properly calibrate as the calibration on my unit was quite off with default presets) something like an i1 Display Pro might be required if you are not willing to pay someone to do a professional calibration.

I think that might be the HDMI trying to do the handshake. Not sure if itís ok for it to be displaying that though.

You can reduce judder in non-4K sources, not sure about 4k ones though. When the setting is low enough, at least for me when I had the 5030, it didnít turn into the soap opera effect. If I turned it up it would turn into it but I found the low setting for it appealing and not offending for 24fps.

Cannot imagine its good for the bulb.

I found it also does it when I switch inputs on the AVR.

For now, Iíll turn on the BD Player and AVR first; then the Projector. Also pressing Blank on Epson remote when switching inputs. I guess Iíll turn off the projector or hit Blank again when a movie is finished.

Itís a jarring flash. Iíll contact dealer here tomorrow.

I hate that soap opera effect that so many seem to like on their screens.

Watching A Cure for Wellness BD, and it looks great. Fine detail on blankets and sheets is amazing.

Noticed my EH-TW8300 has at least one difference from 5040. No B/W preset.
