I am writing as I am sure there are a number of Hollywood Blu-ray collector here. I buy films from all decades starting from 1950. While I have collected some, many still in my wishlist. There are a few options I will mention pros/cons of each which I have experienced

1. Amazon US: Excellent inventory, though some titles are missing. Shipping to India is possible. It remains fine till this point. But a whopping Import duty makes the buyer bleed. I find it hard to buy and get it shipped to my place. I must add if one buys from this source, since he/she is paying a pre-determined conservatively calculatd import duty, one can rest assured.

2. Amazon UK: It is identically same as for its US counterpart, only the import duty, as I have observed, is even heavier.

3. ebay US/UK: If one stays alert and keep searching regularly nearly every Blu-ray including OOP titles can be acquired. However, international shipping is pretty erratic both in terms of method, tariff and possibility. Since one does not pay any duty in advance he/she is at the mercy of Indian Foreign Post Offices (FPO). The custom duty is completely arbitrary: I myself have paid INR 100 or 800 or 2500 for the same stuff with same weight.

There are ebay sellers like rarewave etc. who ship to India at a peanuts, though the shipping method is very slow and untrackable. One can not complain when he pays USD 4 for shipping. The biggest issue is the inventory of these sellers is pretty ordinary, many many titles are simply missing.

4. There are other sources like Amazon.de or fr...... Mostly they sell Blu-rays with non-english description and Menus. I have seen and heard some of the films made in Germany appear way better than the US/UK release. But I don;t expect it for all titles. I have not explored this option extensively.

All in all when I buy BDs more than 10 in number the average from the first source approx turrns out to be INR 2200-2600 per BD, when I get it through my friends in US/UK the averagge goes down to 1600-1800. Option 3 is most economical and I have bought many used BDs at a throw away prices, only I had to wait for long before I receive the same.

Please share your experience. We can certainly improve our BD hunt experience by sharing useful informations.
