I've had the US version in my wishlist for a while but the reviews of the disc always meant that there was something else I'd rather buy. Will be interesting to see how this release turns out.

Odeon just posted a clip on YouTube from a new interview for WHIP & THE BODY with none other than Christopher Lee!

The product listing on the distributors own website confirms its 1080i50

Change your settings on your Region Free player to 1080i and 24HZ.
I did that and it worked aka played fine.. Make sure that you change it back to whatever settings you do have though.

Default Curse of the Crimson Altar!

I just went into my local HMV to buy Graduation Day, they said they had order six copies but they hadn't received them yet . I saw a copy of The Curse of the Crimson Altar for £10.99 and thought that a reasonable price (checking Amazon they have it for £15.50) do decided to buy it.

IMAG0982.jpg

I am however suspicious, the back of the cover says 'FULL HD 1080' but not whether it's 1080i or 1080p so I suspect it's 1080i. There are some Bonus Features as well, Creating the Curse of the Crimson Altar Documentary, Commentary with Barbara Steele, In Conversation with Christopher Lee, Original Trailer and an Image Gallery. I highly doubt these were commissioned for this Blu-ray release and sound like previous DVD features but it's nice to have them all together.

I have no idea if this is the longer US cut or the late 60's BBFC cut UK cinema version, I suspect that this may be the same slightly cut version Odeon put out on DVD, the cover is the same.

That's a great price. I wonder if Island of Terror will be available for the same price in HMV?

I'm very happy with Crimson Altar. Well-done disc that does a good job representing MGM's excellent HD transfer. It comes up as 1080p on my player, by the way.

Is it the full uncut version, with opening whipping sequence included? (I'm not that familiar with the various versions of the film out there, I'm just going by DVD Compare, so there may be additional possible edits as well.)

Cant wait to get mine !

I hope their Whip and the Body surpasses the Kino release, which is too dark, but at the same time, this could be how Bava wanted it.. either way its hard to see at times.. its so dark !

I was lucky that the Crimson Altar Blu-ray was lost by the courier and as Amazon had no more in stock they refunded me and I got it in HMV for £4,50 cheaper

I might cancel Island Of Terror and buy it from HMV

Yes it's £10.99 as well. My copy is reserved.
Most HMV stores only get single copies of Odeon releases, but they can order in for you.

My Crimson Altar disc just arrived, and as I didn't see it mentioned already, the disc is region-free.

They've posted some shots on FB. Same master unfortunately, but have regraded so it's a little lighter and more vibrant. It's not much of a difference though. I think the problem is this; the dark and blue grade was so radical there's not much left in the image that can be brought back via another regrade.

Island of Terror in store at HMV for £10.99 from today. Collected my reserved copy. Like Crimson Altar it's single copies per store so you may need to get your store to order in.

Do you have a link? None of the Odeon Entertainment Group Facebook pages I could find have anything to do with home video.

Edit: Apparently you have to be a registered Facebook member to look at this one:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/odeonentertainment/

Is that it the correct link?

The Birmingham Bull Ring HMV had four copies of Island Of Terror left when I went in (well three now after I picked mt copy up)

And to think I was going to pay £15.50 on Amazon

Got an even better deal today. Amazon sent Island Of Terror instead of my preordered Youth Of The Beast - I can keep it and they're sending Youth Of The Beast free of charge. So I paid £10.65 (after V.A.T. deduction, including postage) for both.
Don't know if it has been mentioned before, but Island now includes the previously censored shot of
[Show spoiler]Cushing getting his hand chopped off
.
