Default strange horizontal line on some bluray movies

hi !
can anyone tell me what this is !?
I am running a panasonic blu ray player into a viera plasma using a HDMI link.
obviously a stunning picture most of the time , I say most of the time because during "i am legend" and " 10000 bc " I noticed a permanent horizontal line in the middle of the screen during dark scenes , its as if the picture has been made up of two seperate transfers !! both these are warner disks so i tried sudden impact ( also a warner disk ) but thats perfect in dark scenes.
Anyone got any ideas what this is ? is it a mastering fault ??
a bit bemused to be honest !
any info appreciated...
Jon

He means the plug that you plug into the outlet. Does it have '2' things that plug into the wall or '3'? The 3rd one is the ground and if you player is not grounded, weird stuff like this might happen.

What color is the horizontal line, and is it the same color on all titles?

There's several possibilities... if it was a grounding issue I would think it would apply to all movies, but that doesn't mean its not some kind of electrical interference issue. Try switching the BD player to a different outlet, as that may help. If you have a line conditioner that would help too if its an electrical issue.

There's many other possibilities though, especially since it only effects certain titles. A simple decoding glitch in the VC-1 decoder could potentially cause this (and would explain why only VC-1 (aka Warner) titles are effected, but I would think more people would have noticed and reported the issue if a player had that kind of bug.

It also could be some kind of HDMI issue. Trying a different cable if you had one available would be a good idea just to help isolate the problem.

Honestly, it should be fairly easily fixable once it can determined what the cause is. I'm with the others and leaning toward electrical interference as that's the most common problem.

My brother's BD did this on Batman Begins, but just unplugged the BD player and plugged it back in and it worked fine.

thanks for the advice....
probably not the player or the disks so i will start to tinker with the HDMI lead and play around with outputs...
its strange.
just played a DVD ( mousehunt ) for my kids and noticed the line as well !?
then tried another DVD ,,,, all fine !?
will post here when i solve this so other people with as little know-how and time on their hands as me dont fall foul with whatever is causing this...
oh and when I was playing disks when investigating this problem , I noticed the blu-ray transfer on the dirty harry film "magnum force" is so good , that for the first time , you just just about see when the master camera's were slightly out of focus in about two of three scenes , the most noticable is the scene when Harry first arrives in the movie at the car with the four dead hoods in it...
Blu ray has even shown the creases in 35 year old films !!!
