Default By the way, have you read the Perfect Vision rave of Pioneer's upcoming plasmas?

This sounds amazing, and fits in with my upgrade plans.
Quote:
One of the biggest flat-panel stories was Pioneer’s demonstration of a ground-up redesign
>>for its plasma TVs that dramatically improves performance. I’m not talking about incremental improvements
>>here—in side-by-side comparisons with Pioneer’s current models as well as plasmas and LCDs from other manufacturers,
>>the differences were striking. And this from a company that already has a reputation
>>for producing some of the finest plasma TVs around (see “2006 Product of the Year Awards,” Issue 74).
>>A great picture involves several factors, including deep blacks, bright whites, wide contrast (the difference between black and white), vivid colors, and sharp detail. The new Pioneer plasma panels demonstrate remarkable

>>The new panels also literally shine in terms of image brightness, which means watching TV in a day-lit room won’t be a problem. Combine this with the panels’ ability to render inky blacks, and you wind up with very wide contrast; in fact, a Pioneer rep claimed that the new panels pegged the contrast meter at 20,000:1, meaning
>>that the actual contrast ratio was greater than that. The higher the contrast ratio, the more the picture “pops,” producing

>>Pioneer has yet to announce specific models, but TVs employing its new plasma design are expected to reach stores this summer. I can’t wait to get one into Grayscale Studio and put it through its...

Default Picture Quality vs Size

It seems everyone agrees Pioneer (current or next generation) is best picture. But I am also concerned about size. I believe Pioneer only has a 60 inch while Panasonic has 65 inch. Any Comments?
Also; when will Panasonic come out with next generation (USA)

I'm sure the next gen Pioneer line will include a 65" or 70" flagship. Based on the snipped from Perfect Vision, it is worth waiting for the rollout of the new models. I need a 50".

Sweet! I still have my Panny VT25 and it's exactly 8 years old today. Won't be going anywhere until it gives out completely

I think the last couple years of Panasonic VT/ZT my have outdone the Pioneer's plasma's in most area's... plus, the last year or two Panasonics will be easier to find on the used market and will be 3-4 years newer than the latest Pioneer you could find.

I would go with one of the Panny's, if someone wanted to purchase a plasma these days.

My Panasonic TC-P50ST30 which I got in May of 2011 is going strong as well! Love that TV.
I want to buy a new TV for another room of the house and my problem is I have no idea what to get. I think there was a forum back then called 'HI-DEF Junkie's' or something and it was really helpful back then.

If cost is no concern, there were a few new/newer OLED TV's recommended in another plasma thread here... they are the Sony A9G Master Series OLED, and the Panasonic HZ2000.

I was able to see the Panasonic a week or so ago, setup in a pretty decent viewing room and calibrated properly. It was playing Planet Earth, and as much as I am a die-hard plasma fanatic, I will be perfectly honest... it is absolutely unbelievable. The fine detail and clarity is provides is something I have never seen before... it's something my Panasonic VT25 can just barely begin to reproduce. It's like looking through a perfectly clean glass window... basically as close to real life as I've seen.

The brightness/contrast is superb, much more like in real life than my plasma can produce. I was seriously floored by it with any "reality" material played through it like Planet Earth or any BBC nature shows. It's also extremely impressive for movies with the added contrast/brightness, although I personally still am held back just a bit by it's presentation of films... I prefer the presentation plasma gives, and I will still give the nod to plasma as well for motion presentation.

The HZ2000 gives the best motion I've ever seen on any non-plasma tv, but it's still not quite there yet for me personally. I will be keeping a close eye on newer OLED models coming out in the next couple years, as the brightness, clarity and fine detail of the HZ2000 picture is mind blowing, and a clear improvement over my 10 yr old plasma. As for now, I will be still looking for a Panasonic VT50/VT60 if my VT25 dies on me at the moment... but damn, that HZ2000 makes a great case for itself and is so very tempting!

I've got 3 plasmas as well: A 768p 50" Pioneer from 2004, 1080i 50" Panasonic from 2005, and an LG 60PB6900 from 2014. I got a cheapo Samsung 4K LED earlier this month and after some use, I find I still very much prefer the look of my LG plasma.

Maybe this is why you still prefer your LG plasma because all 4K UHD TVs doesn't look the same. Some look better than others depending on which brand and kind of 4K TV you choose to buy.

Granted it's been years since I paid much attention. But anytime I saw a 4k display in a store (yes, I know they're not calibrated properly) I was unimpressed - they all looked over processed - over digitized. They looked 'impressive' however they didn't look 'natural' - much prefer the look of plasma.

But one day I know I'll be forced to get one. Hoping that day is a long way off.

There's nothing wrong with plasma TVs. As a matter of fact I still have my 58" Panasonic Plasma that I've moved to my master bedroom after I purchased my 65" LG OLED three years ago, and the plasma still looks good. I have no plans on getting rid of it anytime soon because it's a darn good TV, and I've never had any problems with it (knock on wood).
