Went out to see Spider-man the other day and regretted it. Modern audiences can't seem to control themselves with their whooping and cheering. I hate noisy audiences. I'm going to resist the urge in the future and wait to stream. I have two projector set-ups that are both suitably large enough for that theater experience, even though they are a little lacking on the audio side. I couldn't care less about corona virus and variants. Let it thin the herd.

i've been seeing a lot more fearmongering on social media about how movie theaters are unsafe especially after NWH'S debut.... haven't there been no cases in movie theaters?

Its like , Once I order my 83" OLED(fairly soon) Its going to very difficult to justify a theater trip when my home setup is just crackin'
But Mikey will your 83" OLED give you the same experience? Unless you have like 30 speakers at home running off a multitude of amps with like a 4 thousand dollar + recliner setup it wont be the same experience. I doubt what I am going to do with my setup will come close to being the same experience. 120" Screen UST Projector, 6 Atmos Speakers, 6 Sides, 2 Front, 2 rear, 2 Sub, 1 center will emulate the same experience. I get your point about it being a close experience. But short of dropping 50k for build and audio I dont think itll be the same.

I miss being around crowds. The damn pandemic made me a little socially awkward and nutty in the head.

Yeah.. so I have to assume this post is directed at me and I could just as easily dismiss you all as a bunch of millennials... but that serves no one well, and as the father of a couple of millennials, I'm acutely aware of how misleading it is to use the term in a pejorative light.
I chuckle that Gen Xers are now considered to have been entrepreneurial. When we were in our 20s, we were called slackers.. but I digress, the point is that when I was in my 20s, you could not have convinced me that curbing my enjoyment of life in even the smallest fashion for the benefit of anyone else was an advisable course of action. So I'm not going to try and convince you. I get it. I was once you.

What I find a bit dismaying is the amount of intellectual dishonesty at play. If it's easier for you to characterize me as a Karen that just wants to close everything down just to kill everyone's joy then we have nothing to discuss. If you truly believe that theaters are not super spreaders, then again, I have nothing for you.

If you live in New York state or London England, and are truly baffled by where your meteoric increase in community transmission is coming from then I hope that Spiderman was worth it.

At least in London, there are still a few adults in the room that will eventually save the kids that just have to shop, watch a bit of footy and go to the pub. In New York, the kids have definitely won out. Have fun watching that ball drop..

You're right. It's not the same. When I watch at home, I don't have to be in front of my TV at a certain time, drive around for a parking spot, deal with crying babies/talkers/loud eaters/cellphone users/dim projector bulbs/distorted audio, I can use the bathroom whenever I like and not miss a second of the movie, I can wear whatever is comfortable, I can cuddle on the couch with my wife/dogs/cats...

It's a completely different experience.

It does not matter how expensive or great your personal home theater is, it will NEVER EVER, EVER compare to the 80'x100' screen I love watching certain movies on, empty auditorium or otherwise.

Sitting 10 feet away from a properly calibrated 120" 4K display with 7.4.4 ATMOS sound and built in tactile transducers is a close enough approximation to have all the benefits JAYH mentioned and to avoid the drawbacks he mentioned...
As I mentioned earlier, surprisingly to me, even my kids agree.. I'm not so sure I would have felt that way at 20.

I guess your right, for some of us, the home experience will never compare- IT'S BETTER!

He also gave the movie one star, which I'm sure wasn't a bias at all. I'm picturing him in a cheering theater, arms crossed, pouting.

Nope! Sitting distance from your 120 inches screen is not even remotely close to being the same. There's a joke in there but I don't wanna get in trouble. LOL!

I am right. Home experience will never, ever compare no matter how posh your setup is. It will NEVER, EVER be better.

Waaay way too long of a post, should have just taken one second to look at the post directly above mine.

But you keep patting yourself on the back for being the adult in the room...

Forgive me for judging the guy who thinks people dying is "thinning the herd". As long as it's not you or your loved ones anyway.

Fair enough.. I'd insert a Roseanna Roseannadana NEVERMIND gif here but I'm too old to figure out how to do this on my phone... and you're too young to get the reference..

So I'll simply shake my fist at you kids and yell at you to GET OFF MY LAWN!
