How can we fix our money drain? Do we actually give people a reason to come to the movie besides"muh beeeeeeeeeeg skreeen" and start competing with streaming, maybe even make it affordable to come to the theater again? Nah we gotta jack up the prices of the good seats. good job AMC by china, exactly what will help you.

oh wait

Regal Owner Cineworld Says Its Been Approached By Multiple Buyers Amid Bankruptcy Process
The exhibitor and its creditors are looking to shop the company for sale or complete a reorganization via a debt-for-equity transaction.

Quote:
“If you want me to scare everybody, I had no idea what Avatar is, but I appreciate the power point,” the court judge announced. When told he might view the Avatar sequel in a local Regal cinema this weekend, Judge Isgur said he was barred from buying a cinema ticket from a Cineworld venue while the bankruptcy case was ongoing.

Harrison Ford: “I Know Who the F*** I Am”
The actor is busier than ever with 'Shrinking,' 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' and '1923.' We tried to get the delightfully testy 80-year-old icon to open up about his life and latest projects. Here's how that went.

I just read that article discussing AMC's cost raising choice.

I mean talk about not the time to raise cost and create premium options while not giving any actual premium options! What are they going to do, install columns in front of seats to make others appear more valuable? Talk about cutting off your own arm with this stupidity!

I had some speculation on what they are thinking in this thread.

Movie theatres need to tear down all their small screens and put up bigger screens if they want to be charging high prices.

Would y'all be okay with watching a new release movie on a screen this size?

I've gone to different theaters just to get a bigger screen. The Regal nearest me has 18 screens and none of them are that small.

I've seen users on here with a larger home theater. That's just sad. If it's for indie/local stuff, I can see it being decent.

I wonder if any will be installed in the US. Doesn't seen like Samsung's Onyx screens have seen more adoption unfortunately.

It's the cost that keeps them from being installed: $750K to $1 million depending on screen size

Those are definitely arthouse screens/theaters. But I’ve seen some pretty small auditoriums in multiplexes. Also I hate when they show films letterboxd. The regal nearest me does that for like every film that’s not a blockbuster. Luckily it’s closing so I won’t miss it.

I visited an AMC in my area different from the one I usually go to yesterday. They had a space theme going on which was kind of cool. The doors to the auditoriums opened directly to the room without a winding corridor but there were two of them. There also weren't recliners. The sign at the front says AMC 30 but currently there's only 17 auditoriums.

Former Landmark Theatres Site On New York’s West 57th Street Resurrected By Look Cinemas, With Summer Opening Planned

Quote:
Manhattan is getting one of its movie theaters back.

Look Dine-In Cinemas has reached a long-term lease deal with the Durst Organization, owners of 57 West, and will start up operations this summer. The distinctively designed, triangular building hard by the Hudson River had for several years housed a Landmark Theatres complex. The Landmark at 57 West took on even greater significance in the city’s film scene once Lincoln Plaza closed in 2018, but ultimately Landmark decided to shutter it in 2020 due to the impact of Covid.

The new 8-screen site will be Look’s first New York City location and will serve as the company’s flagship. It already operates 11 theaters and 111 screens in Texas, California, Florida, Arizona, Georgia and New York.

What is with AMC's new popcorn 'buckets'? I don't like them. Their shape doesn't sit as well in my lap as the bucket. Plus they leak if you add too much butter (not leak, but the material absorbs moisture so can transfer onto pants). They are flimsy so they are prone to crumpling when you are digging in for another handful haha. I jokingly asked the staff if they knew why? "Probably to save money." that was my thought too.
